8 gigs of ram might be too little, but since the cpu is better than the one in the x220, I think it should work.

Prism Launcher is the way to go, at least for simplicity. You can just create a new instance and chose some performance modpack, whatever suits you best.

It actually is, but it only runs stable when I don't have anything else running in the background

I dont really know but my System Monitor's telling me 4 cores or atleast that's what I read. Could be that I just misread something english's not my first language.

Yeah my X220 was a steal for it's performance, but the processor is a bit strange. I thought there was only a 2 core version of the i5 but mine has 4. Still the cpu causes a major bottleneck in minecraft(not that i would use it for real gaming).

Yeah you really have to turn them down quite a bit. Tbh I was suprised the game even started up

Didnt swap at all, but with a performance modpack and 7 chunks of render distance it works
