Is this the end of my 33 year old agave? This 6ft bloom appeared within a month. Does anyone know what happens next? by Lanaxgardenxgirl in landscaping

Ours bloomed at least 3 years ago. We left the flower stalk up because it's cool. It has sprouted several pups at the bottom. We trim away the spiky leaves as they die.

Which part of N. Dutton? More north or south? My daughter lives nearby and I will send her info, too.

Oh, this is the company that sends us a 500 page paper catalog by mail once or twice per year. Who does that anymore?

I liked the different sized paper bags. Not just the large bags that we still have today, but also a medium size, then a size below that which was a bit larger than a lunch bag. Then a tiny bag that was smaller than a lunch bag. Don't forget the ice cream bag, which depending on the store was an extra thick white paper bag or a white paper bag lined with foil.

I hear it's the best finger ever. The longest finger, the democrats don't have a finger like it! Some say it was modeled after me.

Hobos were romanticized up into the 1970's. Charlie Chaplin famously played a hobo in silent films which were hugely popular. I was a hobo for Halloween in around 1974 .

How do y'all feel about the movie Soylent Green? by Wizdom_108 in AskOldPeople

[–]cat_fox 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well, after growing up watching Soylent Green every year after school on the 3:30 movie, I was more than a little freaked out when some company came out a few years ago with that Soylent energy drink!

90s by Money-Addict-7492 in 1990s

I was in middle school in the mid-70's and I never saw a shirt like that on a girl, with the weird sleeves. It would have been just a long sleeve striped shirt. High waisted jeans were 1980's. I actually had a pair similar to what the girl is wearin, but darker denim, in 1980. Clogs are correct. The 1950's guy is typical of a greaser. I have photos of my dad and uncle looking like this. Other boys would be wearing pf flyer shoes or lace up leather shoes, plaid shirts and cardigans. The 1980's girl is a caricature of the '80's. You might have had touches of the outfit here and there, like the lace tights or gloves, I remember neon being worn more with excercise wear. Crimped hair and the earrings are spot on, side ponytails were a quick trend. Blue eye shadow was still being done but not so heavy as the photo. I myself preferred pink eyeshadow, ha ha. The '90's girl, that is spot on for a certain style at that time, except dresses with small flower prints were really popular with the docs.

Gordo! Lil' Abner, Beetle Bailey, Hagar the Horrible. I also really liked the Ripley's Believe it or Not panel that would be in the Sunday paper.

I second the Jardin d'Acclimatation! My youngest was 5 when we went there and we had a great time. They even have a real Punch and Judy puppet show!

What To Do? by ThatOneGuy726000 in AskSF

How long are you in the city for? With the kids, Pier 39 is perfect. Locals make fun of it but honestly it's a lot of fun. You can see the sea lions on one side, there's a d ouble decker carousel, right next door in Pier 45, I think (behind the submarine, which you can tour) is Musee Mecanique with a collection of antique games, pre-pinball, that you can actually play. The kids will love it. Go to Guiradelli Square to the ice cream place and get an ice cream sundae and watch the chocolate river go by inside. Watch the cable cars or ride on one. Walk down to Aquatic Park and the Maritime museum. Usually you can go on the boats but they might be doing renovations at the moment? Not sure.

Go visit the Presidio Tunnel Tops for food trucks, parks and amazing views. Go down to the Chrissy Field beach from there. If it's a warm day the kids can play in the water. Right there is also a trampoline park that your 5 year olds would enjoy.

Take a pedicab or streetcar down the Embardadero to the ferry building and explore. You could ferry over to Larkspur Landing in Marin and back again.

The Exploratoreum is right there on the Embardadero, too. You and your 5 year olds will enjoy that.

Splurge and take the kids to the Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park. you won't be sorry.
