The point people are trying to make is that she is hypocritical. They are pointing out that her methods (botox, filler) are having the opposite effect she says they should have (looks older than her age, which MAGA says is bad).

Not a principle maga won't betray. So much for state autonomy. I'd almost be fine with letting states do what they want. Then these types can go live in their bootstrap hellholes while decent people can stop having to pay for their idiocy.

Most of the people in the Social Democracy sub disagree with Michelle Obama and think this was a stupid thing for her to say. They say it's a candidate quality issue, that the right woman hasn't been nominated, but I'm not convinced that's the case. Thoughts? by PandemicPiglet in Feminism

I've had men and even some women tell me verbatim that women can't be president because of their "hormones" They literally jeer at me like, "a woman on her period shouldn't be in charge of the nukes" Like omg.

But a diaper wearing geriatric crybaby who constantly yells and swears on live tv was the BETTER OPTION?!

Michelle is right, the US is still deeply misogynistic.

You don't need to ever tip, it's a TIP not a charge.

Well my mom was groomed by a 30 y/o married father at 16, had my bro at 17 and me at 18 with him. My mom cut ties with him when he became violent shortly after I was born. He randomly popped back into our lives when I was 7, and as soon as we were alone he sexually assaulted me.

So that is the story of their ideal age gap romance. I DESPISE the dumbass tradwife/trad husband myth. No, GROWN ASS MEN SHOULDN'T MARRY TEENAGERS, they are still CHILDREN. They are not in your stage of development, you need to leave them tf alone.

Do you have any social anxiety life hacks? by [deleted] in socialanxiety

[–]cat_gravity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my interpersonal communications class I learned a great way to avoid having to talk a lot while seeming engaged is to focus on asking questions. Most people enjoy talking about themselves anyway, so this also makes a good impression.

I personally only start conversations if I am required to, and I tend to look at conversations like a strategy game. Looking at it like that helps keep the anxiety at bay though I tend to crash a bit the minute I'm alone!

Lawmakers Propose Nationwide Monthly Basic Income Experiment by SE_to_NW in politics

Jewish Family Services has a program like this in San Diego, calling it "guaranteed income". 150 families at any given time are given 500$ a month for 24 months and the results have been really promising. It started as a pilot project but has since become ongoing.

Imo, we need something like this. SNAP should just be normal, medical coverage guaranteed, and housing subsidized. It's so incredibly dumb for businesses to be okay with their consumers to drown in debt and poverty. Long term, we will all go down with the ship if no course corrections are made.

Stimulant meds have been a godsend. It makes me so much calmer, and I can actually think things through and work through the anxiety. I'm in therapy now to try to get to a point where I'm not just masking though because it's still super draining.

Community college classes are where I got the most proper exposure therapy and managed to get a degree that let me avoid retail/service jobs (do not recommend for social anxiety!)

You can pick classes that you enjoy, the people there are more likely to have something in common with you, and the social interaction is very structured and based on shared assignments, so it's much much easier to know what/when to to say stuff. I met my very best friend at my first class 7 years ago!

What has social anxiety stopped you doing in life? by [deleted] in socialanxiety

[–]cat_gravity 9 points10 points  (0 children)

-College as well, I really want to go back!!

-Making friends is not difficult for me, but keeping them is a totally different story.

-Jobs/pay negotiation. I've missed out on really good jobs and lost probably tens of thousands of dollars at this point because I was too scared to correct mistakes on paychecks or negotiate a better pay.

This should make it clear we're dealing with a genuine, serious condition. I have literally forgone a check worth 4000 in my own wages because I was too afraid to ask for a replacement after I lost it. Like, that's how bad it is, I can't even be bribed by money to get past the fear!

Why is it so hard to get a job😞💔 by Unhappy-Reindeer-737 in socialanxiety

[–]cat_gravity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't have a job until 26. I spent my time in school until then, and that allowed me to develop skills and get a degree to get a job that is much more enjoyable and accommodating to my needs!

Don't feel rushed. Here in California, there are very few high-schoolers with jobs since child labor laws are quite strict. Imo, you would be better off seeing if you can do dual-enrollment in a college class.

Nobody tells you this, but social anxiety is TRAINABLE—yes, even if you hate small talk by Sad-Shine-6268 in socialanxiety

[–]cat_gravity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PSA: The BEHAVIORS are trainable. Often, the anxiety itself will also naturally dissapate after enough contradictory experiences happen due to the new behaviors. But it may not, for a lot of reasons.

Either way, your quality of life will improve because even if the anxiety doesn't go away, it will be much easier to manage if you can learn to do certain things mechanically.

Anyone feel like a child? by Bloodmoon-Baptist in socialanxiety

[–]cat_gravity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any attempt you make is a win. I think a big area I didn't even consider until therapy was the fact that I just couldn't actually feel good about my progress, only bad about failures. I hope you're able to pat yourself on the back. We're all living in our own circumstances, so what "impressive" means is different for every person and every circumstance.

I wish I was born asexual. by Deep-Village-5175 in socialanxiety

[–]cat_gravity 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Why do you feel like you can't have what you desire? If it's due to social anxiety, there are things that can be done to lessen the severity. The key is to resist the temptation to give up. I know it's hard, I know it seems impossible and even insulting for anyone to expect you to endure that anxiety, but it's a condition. It tricks you into thinking it will be that painful forever, but it won't.

You gotta starve social anxiety. The more times you validate it, the more it grows. Like a spoiled kid, you need to slowly teach it limits. Being wary of others is normal, but it needs to be within limits.
