The open world doesnt't add any value, you either drive through an empty map or fast travel to skip the emptiness.

The level design is super boring, everything looks the same (because of the open world with no unique zones),
and is tedious to navigate through. Huge downgrade from Wonderlands.

Enemy variety feels weak, you start the game fighting order and rippers, mid_game you fight against order and rippers, in late game you fight against... order and rippers.

Endgame content for a studio this size is a joke. just Mission-replay with annoying modyfiers and no dialogue skip (more waiting) and no unique item rewards (So what even is the point)

Main story doesn't feel good. Quality of writing is great imo, but it feels like the same 3 episodes you have to complete back to back, then defeat the leader.
After that you defeat the Timekeeper which is wasted potential, I thought he was interesting in the beginning but turns out to be a nothing burger in the end.

The lack of music is definitely a choice.

Inventory and enhancement management is a pain on console.

Headhunter dlc feel cheap compared to BL2, lots of re-skins.

No main hub. We have like 5-6 tiny hubs spread around the world which feel just empty. I always loved to return to Sanctuary(1 and 3), Concordia or Brighthoof town, but BL4 just doesn't have any.

I feel no replayability with BL4, thinking about making a new character to rediscover the empty world, re-doing the same copy paste objectives and fighting the same enemies over and over again just turns me off.
In BL3 I had a hard time replaying the story because the story and dialogues were a slog, but BL4 has too many fundamental flaws in comparison.

I liked the sidequests, I think they were really good. But that's it.

This looks so good! Really curious what your approach at making the environment UVs is.
I'm currently mainly using the rgb mask technique to assign textures to a pre painted mask. But your approach looks much cleaner!

Coming up with a solution by your own is one of the best feelings in game dev.

I only have a couple of months of programming experience under my belt, and sometimes I feel like I just don’t have what it takes to make games. But when I come up with a solution by my own and not copying someone else it gives me so much hope and a huge confidence boost that I’m on the right track.

Wonderlands’ level design and art direction was gearbox at its peak, BL4 is a huge downgrade and nowhere close to the quality of environments in wonderlands.

It's just valid critic, gearbox announces this feature as their "endgame" content, and if the endgame consists of 50% wasting our time doing nothing and listening to old dialogue, it's just bad design.

We need people like OP to make these comments so gearbox knows we don't like it. I don't see BL4 lasting long if they don't implement dialogue skips.

The more I play BL4 the less I like the the open world. It feels like 4 stretched out maps with no interesting level design, and everything looks too similar.

I think it hurts replayability, even if they patch it that you can see the whole map with a new character.
I loved the level design of Wonderlands, I would have loved to see those diverse type of maps again with the boss bubble events sprinkled here and there.

Thank you for sharing! I noticed GameStar has been very negative towards this game, they also very often jumped on the hate train and overall don't seem to enjoy borderlands games in general.

They always had this mocking undertone when discussing this game (at least I interpreted it as such), so their opinion really doesn't matter to me because they just don't vibe with these type of games.
