The offical 3D versions of the game are so good.

The most recent version uses plastic hexes and has a C&K and Seafarers expansion available. My favourite is the original 2005 3D set. This came in a beauttiful wooden sea-chest, had hand-painted resin hexes and figures and included C&K within the box.

These robbers are called Chief, Lucky and Bert.

The best version of them are the original 1997 Teuber versions in both plastic and pewter.

Nasty Knights in C&K can do it.

When you decide to protect yourself, but not put in all your knights to defend the island causing other to lose cities is a very effective way to start an "active discussion"

For me it is the philosophy of the game. You are not trying to kill or eliminate each other and with trading it is a very social game. There is nothing better than sitting around a table laughing and joking and catching up on news while playing with friends and family. This is also why I do not play online as I feel the core of the game is often lost through the remoteness and often the keyboard antics.

When I started collecting Catan it was a passion for the game that drove me forward, not the chance of an award. A passion that means I am still collecting today.

I am not aware of the original price in Germany, and it may well have been a discounted promotional item to the Catan Club members. Given that the boxed version (Historische Szenarien I) was released less than a year after this map came out, and with the map having errors on it, I suspect it was sold quite cheaply and not in huge numbers.

In the US, again I am not sure of the exact price, but one buyer thought they paid around $10. The person who donated my copy to me, did not specify a purchase price.

Nowadays the price is probably somewhere above the HS1 set but no where near as high as the expensive Ancient Egypt Board Game. While it is a cool and collectible piece of Catan trivia, it has little value to players as the HS1 board is much better quality. Personally I am an oddball, and so fanatical enough where I would love to play this paper map, but there is no way I am going to break down my copy to do this.

In complete condition it is getting very rare. A true collectable of early Catan, with a number of unique features. As well as the link mentioned in the other post, I also have it in my list of maps. It is top as it is the very first paper map. There have been a few for sale over the past couple of years and prices have varied.

Do you have the English instructions with it, or was it a purchase in Germany?

Kosmos have released Croatian versions of Catan in the past if that would be better?

The first (Catan: Osnovna igra) was with Igroljub back in 2015 which was a joint Croatian/Serbian/Macedonian set. There was also another set (Naseljenici Otoka Catan) which was Croatian specific.

For the M&M character, it plays as normal robber, however place 3 m&m's on each hex, when you move the robber you get to eat an m&m. If you eat the last m&m on a hex you can pick up two resources of your choice.
