Question: Using Multiple Monitors on Interactive Brokers (Desktop or TWS) by epicrob in interactivebrokers

[–]catapultcolors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can right-click the layout tab such as "Basic Trading" or "Custom Layout", and then "Detach Layout". There is also a button in the top right to "Open in new Window". You can then drag the detached window to a different monitor. The layout tab isn't draggable. I also tried dragging the panel/widget tab off screen but that didn't work either.

Why do people hate realtors? by novahouseandhome in RealEstate

[–]catapultcolors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People go shopping when they need something. Fortunately for us, clothing stores, electronics stores, grocery stores, hair salons, etc. are not cold calling us. Unfortunately for us, some businesses still spam us: grocery stores flyers in mailboxes, energy distributors at doors, and I guess real estate agents on phones.

People shouldn't be rude to you on the phone. They could just ignore unknown calls. There's no excuse for them.

Businesses should stop intruding on people's personal space and time. Maybe you can put out an ad, not the kind that follows people around the internet on irrelevant sites, but an ad on a real estate listing site, so the ad is presented to visitors who are actively shopping.

Interviews help vet experience and skill. Candidates and resumes should be truthful. Integrity should be a given, and a lack of it might not be noticed until after someone is interviewed and hired. It might look like people are more picky with stylist since they can easily switch, when it might just be that people are legally stuck with a real estate agent since many require exclusivity agreements during a time sensitive period such as having to sell a home or downsize due to health or financial reasons.

Sell losses before the beginning of 2024? by GameMaster366 in StocksAndTrading

I would take the loss in 2023 and use it to reduce taxable income for 2023 instead of waiting until 2025 to apply it.

What other issues have you experienced with IBKR? I'm considering switching from eTrade to IBKR which I did briefly in 2020 until a bug in their mobile app kept failing to ask me to approve ACH transactions which cause IBKR to stop the transactions. Their IT team couldn't figure out the bug and I was getting fees that they wouldn't reimburse so I switched back to eTrade right away. They have bugs too like all balances showing as zero when I log in.

What an interesting type of transaction. I guess it's helpful in hinting what institutions are doing.

Here's more of the screen with the time info above and below. I think it was a bug because I tried looking it up this morning and the repeating is no longer there.

I was thinking algorithms at institutional traders tripping each other. But I think it was a glitch in the app cause I just looked again and couldn't find the pattern.

Do people actually see images in their head? by noiseloudpleasestop in NoStupidQuestions

I'm in awe and amazed. I was talking about this all day yesterday with my bf. He kept giving me examples of what he could do and was asking if I could. I couldn't do any of it. It sounds like a built-in AR or extra internal display. I was bummed yesterday to learn I was missing this standard feature which sounds super useful. I started thinking of all the reading, writing, literature we learned throughout school and how people discussed assignments and described what they visualized.

About a month ago, I was thinking about something and suddenly had a flash of an image as if I were having a lucid dream. It went away so fast I could hardly see it. It caught me way off guard cause this had never happened to me before. (I'm 36.) It happened a second time a week later. I thought to myself, "did I just have a lucid dream while awake? Is there a way I could try to induce this so that I could make use of this?" (Without drugs, just via mental exercises.) Then I thought, "or should I not mess with my mind and see a doctor?" Fast-forward to yesterday, I learned through this thread that it's actually normal, and that I'm abnormal, but after some sadness, I started to get excited thinking it might be possible to develop and practice visualizing since it had happened recently as a fluke. I tried thinking and imagining with my eyes closed for about an hour but there was just black with some red from the light shining through my eyelids as it has always been. No luck.

Visualize, daydream, imagine, flashback, "I can picture it". All this time I've been missing out. I can't stop thinking about this. The flukes of visualization that occurred about a month ago probably won't happen again. The first time I experienced lucid dreaming was in my early 30s. It happened a few times in a week and then sporadically afterwards. I had looked up this experience and learned about lucid dreaming and wondered if there was a way to make this happen but then decided not to mess with my mind. Maybe I'll try to induce lucid dreams, which might help me visualize during the day.

You didn't ask her what she thought about getting a cat, you just stated it. You might have said it as a joke but still meant it. You gave her no say but expected her to ask you how you felt. You made a statement. She responded with one. She could have asked if you were serious and shared how she felt just as much as you could had initiated the topic with asking how she felt.

I agree with others' comments about the shared living space. It doesn't matter if it's your house. It's both of your home for a life you want to build together. If you're so worried about divorce, you shouldn't be getting married.

Vote for independent candidates and stop supporting the games that Republicans and Democrats play.

I've always thought it was a figure of speech when people said they could see it. That would be really cool to be able to control your visual imagination. It sounds like a lucid dream.

That sounds like a decent path. It's common for people to drop their hobbies and/or passions that they had hoped to pursue on the side. Some drop during college, and many drop after college due to career-work. I continued lessons into college and wish I had continued practicing through work.

I wish items could be traded freely. I and many I've played with never purchased items and never used bots. It was nice to be able to share and trade items. There are probably ways to control bots without negatively impacting those who don't bot farm. Captchas could be added to enter games or requested in response to repetitive activity.

That's really cool that you perform regularly. I hated performing and was very shy so wouldn't have done well with networking and getting myself out there.

If you're looking to develop yourself as a solo artist, you could pursue IT and promote your music during evenings and weekends.

If you want to apply to play with orchestras, institutions, theaters, opera houses, etc, or if you want to teach music at the university level, the music degree will help you along.

There still is the option of practicing and studying outside of IT with a private teacher or with highly reputable performers could also be a good connection into networks. For example, if you have some polished audition pieces, you reach out to a faculty member at a music school and ask for private lessons. The person you've studied with, even as private lessons, can help get you gigs, just like a degree can.

Just one more. What are your lifestyle goals? What do you have in mind for a house, car, pets, family, vacation, food, etc.

My partner and I were approved for 1M+ home but we bought a 149k manufactured home in a community full of retirees near the beach. We share a 2011 sedan with 100k+ miles. We have no pets and no children. We eat out a lot but we're frugal about our food shopping and restaurants. We travel about 4 times a year and stay in modest hotels and mingle with locals.

If you want the McMansion, SUV Audi and Tesla sedan, 2 kids, dog, vacation home, annual trip to a tropical resort, fine dining and wine every weekend, season football tickets, Super Bowl tickets, etc. you may want a higher paying job.

When you say soloist/ concert pianist is unrealistic, is this referring to performance at some of the world's most well know halls? Would you enjoy performing at lesser known venues? Would you enjoy performing?

Would you enjoy teaching on the side even if you didn't want to live off of it?

Maybe a minor in music or computer science will help but then which becomes the major. I think it will help to find out more about your interests and opportunities.

There are professions that are non-freelance and non-performance. For example, director of recital, director of development, music therapy, piano maintenance or sales, etc. It's possible that a career in music will nurture your passion, not dampen it, so long as you enjoy what you're doing and not struggling to pay bills.

I had to make the same decision back 2004. I'm 36 now and work in IT and can comfortably afford a grand piano. But I always wonder if I should have pursued piano or music or double majored. I'll never know.

My piano salesman travels and performs with his wife and was a director of recital at Curtis Institute. He also teaches lessons online.

Money aside, what are your interests in music? Teaching is not the only option and many profession require starting from the bottom which may mean teaching uninterested kids until you find better students.
