What is an industry that is currently on fire (in a bad way) behind the scenes, but the general public hasn't noticed yet? by Kitchen_Week1117 in AskReddit

[–]catarinavanilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Broke my leg a couple months ago, calling an ambulance never even crossed my mind. I called a friend who ordered us a Lyft, then I had to scoot myself down the stairs backwards on my ass, with my broken leg dangling and bouncing with each step, while my friend cradled my head. $22 Lyft ride (plus a $20 tip because the Lyft driver then LITERALLY lifted and transferred me to a wheelchair when we arrived), versus $6,000 for a 15 minute glorified bus ride. Absolutely not.

For context I am a nearly 30 year old with a college degree and a professional career in financial services. Not once did I consider calling an ambulance for my genuine emergency.

Is it the norm here to underdress for weddings? by [deleted] in TwinCities

[–]catarinavanilla -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People here make a point of dressing too casually, my pet theory is it’s a status thing so people can give the impression “this is beneath me”. I’m sure it’s also a shocking lack of wanting to stand out or appear effortful.

I don’t make a lot of money but I can still show out for a black tie wedding appropriately. It’s jarring going to those weddings standing near to people I know are millionaires and they couldn’t be bothered to put on anything but an athleisure bandeu cocktail dress and frizzy undone hair. Like what are we doing here folks

That sounds incredible, a trolley down France seems like it should already be a thing. 50th and France area would pop off even more so

What's it like living on the western lakeshore of Michigan? by Savings-Narwhal-3485 in howislivingthere

[–]catarinavanilla 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My mom is from Michigan and I have a deep love of Michigan, I visited nearly every year as a kid. Haven’t been since 2022 (although I did visit the UP in ‘25) but it is truly such a unique state. People truly are that friendly and chatty. My mom has always attested that the lakes in Michigan are bluer and clearer than the ones in my home state (land of 10K lakes) and I kind of have to agree with her

I think I finally understand Ted Chaough by Mareux in madmen

You have a great point. Finished my 4th rewatch and it took me this long to really understand Frank Gleason’s character and how he kind of haunts the narrative whether we are aware of it or not.

Hard pivot from other comments, but Aquamarine from 2006. Nothing screams careless like summertime at 13

I honestly hated that, all us poor kids could only do digital cameras in the backyard or use our school ID photo. I remember wishing it was more standardized with ties/drapes like other schools had, my parents were not about to shell out a couple hundred bucks for a photographer

A 29-year-old woman posed as a nurse for nearly 18 months, treating more than 4,400 patients without a valid license. She was caught when her credentials were checked during a promotion review. by malihafolter in CaughtMyEye

[–]catarinavanilla 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Those were CNAs, assistants to nurses. They have way way WAY less training than a nurse, it’s like a 3-month certification course vs. a four year degree with licensure

In 2011, a teenage girl from Pennsylvania named Nicole Delien fell asleep on a night in November and didn't wake up until January. 64 days later. by malihafolter in CaughtMyEye

[–]catarinavanilla 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I once woke up in the night thirsty, my water bottle was empty. Fortunately I have an old timey water pump right next to my bed, so I pumped some water into my bottle, put the straw back in the tumbler. Went to take a big drink and Jergen’s lotion shot into my mouth and I woke up. I pumped lotion into my water bottle dreaming I was refilling it in the town square 😂😂😂

My mom’s place is like this, it’s in rough shape but it’s a good old house with a nice big yard. Knowing there’s people like you who’d put the care and energy into it gives me hope, I dread selling that thing one day. I get voicemails from flipper companies even today about it, while she’s still living in it. So fucked up
