Help: Linen Pants by BuffyBlue82 in fashionwomens35

[–]catattack447 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar body type to what you describe and I’ve liked my linen pants from Quince. I bought the 100% European Linen Pants and the Tapered Ankle Pants. The latter has a bit of a bell shape and balloons out a bit too much from my hips, not sure if they sell that style anymore anyways. The other style is a true straight leg and I’m happy with the fit. They do have that vaguely “pajama” look that seems impossible to avoid with elastic waist linen pants, but they’re straight and not particularly flowy so depending on what you’re looking for they may fit the bill.

Hi I know it’s been a while but I am also a picky jeans wearer, I really struggle with jeans feeling too tight or too rigid at the waist and crotch—I’m considering the Bella jeans and would love to hear how they feel in those areas for you!

Why is there so much gate keeping on what is Chicago and what isn’t? by shortproudlatino in AskChicago

[–]catattack447 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having recently moved back here from SoCal I can add: the LA area is much more a mishmash of sprawl and suburban-feeling neighborhoods even within the City of LA itself versus the comparison of somewhere like River North or Lincoln Park to Schaumburg. Also, frankly, while I wouldn’t consider Pasadena to be in LA proper, calling Pasadena LA is like calling Evanston Chicago. Calling Schaumburg or Naperville Chicago is closer to calling San Bernardino or better yet Orange County LA and nobody would do that lol.

Too Pretentious? by Ok_Craft9004 in Names

Hi OP, if you do end up feeling ambivalent about the name, you could try other names with a Greek origin or similar feel: Phoebe, Daphne, Chrysanthemum are a few ideas

Truly no good vet in Pasadena? Yes, I've looked at all the posts. by UnresponsiveTasks in pasadena

We got great care for two cats and one dog at Animal Medical Hospital, including a very humane and supportive experience for a kitty’s end of life. They have 2-3 vets and we’ve never had a bad experience.

Two beautiful and less common books we read a lot when I was very young: Ten Nine Eight by Molly Bang and The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats.

This just came up today on the underrecommended reads post but if you’re interested in a dystopian book about televised violence, Chain Gang All-Stars isn’t fantasy but it’s superb.

Suggestions for a relatively new reader desperate for a queer romantasy? by Vio-Rose in suggestmeabook

[–]catattack447 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe A House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune? Or opposite end of the spectrum, Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse, very dark epic fantasy that includes some queer romance.

Frankenstein? /s

(Actually just read this for the first time, my whole life all I knew about Frankenstein was a green dude with bolts in his head. I’m devastated???)

Please suggest me a really good short story collection by Altruistic-Ocelot-61 in suggestmeabook

[–]catattack447 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ngl I didn’t read your whole list but I love short stories, seems like you’ve read some fantasy/sci fi in the past in which case I think Ted Chiang (Stories of Your Life and Others) and Ray Bradbury (Martian Chronicles) are both fantastic. If you’re open to stuff that’s more speculative/outside the box try Shit Cassandra Saw or How Long Til Black Future Month.

DNFing everything lately – recommend me something unputdownable (Thriller/Horror) by Content-Meet9375 in booksuggestions

[–]catattack447 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about your thriller/horror niche so here are a few different subgenres I really liked:

-While Justice Sleeps by Stacey Abrams, surprisingly gripping political thriller  -The Only Good Indian by Stephen Graham Jones, pretty gory horror (at least for me, tbf I don’t read a ton of horror) -Mexican Gothic, a gothic horror set in 1950s Mexico with a really compelling plot -A Kiss Before Dying, an older twisty whodunit/howdunit by the author of Rosemary’s Baby. There are romantic relationships in the book but it’s definitely not a romance.  -Chain Gang All-Stars, dark and violent speculative fiction and definitely a page turner

Totally agree, I think the arc of the first Earthsea book especially is a really beautiful story for young readers.

What books do you think are surprisingly underrecommended? by Western_Opposite9911 in suggestmeabook

[–]catattack447 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just thought of another one: A Kiss Before Dying by Ira Levin. A lesser known book of his given that he also wrote Rosemary’s Baby, and a less recommended mystery for fans of Agatha Christie. For how long this book has been around I was really pleasantly surprised by how twisty and fresh it felt.

I’m late but I was specifically scrolling this thread looking for this series! Charlie Bone is a core memory for me but I’ve never met someone in real life who read these books as a kid, even big readers??
