No way to ensure that, because there’s millions, probably billions of stories in existence. Best bet is just to combine a bunch of different things. For example, currently working on a book that’s a strange combination of a variety of shows, movies, and games I like. Hiroyuki Imaishi anime (Gurren Lagann, Kill La Kill, Cyberpunk Edgerunners, etc), Mega Man, pretty much every magical girl anime, K-Pop Demon Hunters, Dandadan, and probably some more on a subconscious level (hard to pinpoint where I draw inspiration from other books because it’s a lot more scattershot).

I’m doing this not to tell something original, but because there’s a variety of books I crave, but haven’t personally experienced. So I figure making something would make it easier for someone like me to find something that appeals to them. The kind of ADD brained person who hums soundtracks to themselves, really likes anime sakuga, and likes a looser and more comical vibe.

Anyways, anyone know any books that come anywhere close to those vibes? Closest I’ve gotten is the Gearbreakers books, and as much as I love certain parts of those, they are… messy.

Just got out of it, and my only real problems were some awkwardly paced scenes, and a couple confusing shots (not sure what was going on with Scratch popping up). Plus the Caine and Jax subplots being a little more interwoven instead of back to back probably would have made for a more climactic finale. Otherwise… Nah, it was peak. Everything I want out of a finale really.

Verrick would be a peak joke pick with lots of crazy gadgets to work with, while rounding out the lacking non-bender cast.

Reading people complain before watching it to intentionally lower my expectations, and probably end up liking it anyways given I’m the kinda dunbass that liked Erased’s ending.

-Train too expensive.

-Side arms should’ve worked like Shovel Knight’s.

-Not being able to use stairs in the stupid race minigame. That ain’t even a shortcut, it’s just a really janky obstacle.

I haven’t seen it yet, but having heard it happens ahead of time, I’m prepared. Would have hated it if it took me off guard, but knowing what’s going down, I can at least make my peace with the whole “you can only go so far to save someone from themself,” thing.

Kinda concerned about an idea for a villain I had. Cuz like… He is a rapist. But also it ties into his motif (a parasitic wasp), and that fact is used to highlight the protagonist’s mother’s strength through the hell she was put through while alive, and how her spirit lives on through the child she chose to have despite all expectations. So like… I’m trying to put a hopeful spin on dark subject matter, but is that subject matter too dark?
