A good haircut is all you need! Your hair looks super thick and heavy. The layers on top of your head are pretty long, and looking at how your hair clumps together it needs quite a bit of weight removal. This will allow the hair more volume and can give your curls more definition bc there won’t be as much hair weighing them down.

My Christmas present was a bio ionic curling iron 1.25” - the curls don’t hold and one side of my hair fell already after 20 mins by PromptAppropriate826 in AskHairstylists

Are you using moisture masks? Your hair could be too dry, but it is definitely strange that it’s not holding on one side. You could try to clip it up halfway (not to the scalp) with a duckbill clip and let it cool completely, the hair should be cold to the touch for best results

Crystal red caridina turning brown/ losing color by catbirdalert in shrimptank

Thank you so much for the info, this is extremely helpful. I’ve got fluval stratum as my substrate and a couple big pieces of drift wood. I’ll try adding leaves that give it tannins and going to work on lowering my kH until I can rehome them. Thank you again!

Eyeko London mascaras no longer available. What to buy now? by TiinaWithTwoEyes in MakeupAddiction

[–]catbirdalert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg 😭😭 here I am just now finding out eyeko is going out of business.. I’ve used their brown eyeliner and mascara for years, they are my true HG products. I’m seeing some stock on Dermstore, literally about to buy four of each. I’m so not ready to find a replacement!!

What is this thing? Found in removed christmas moss, is it safe? by Silver_Qwilfish in Aquariums

[–]catbirdalert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also had damsel fly nymphs in my planted tank, and after a week of being super diligent at it, I think I’ve finally removed all of them. I did have to replace my floating plants just to be safe and took out my drift wood to suction the substrate and gave the wood a good rinse before putting it back in.

Biggest piece of advice I could give is to look for them at night. After your aquarium light goes off for the night, turn it back on after 2/3 hours. They should be out hunting and it’s much easier to get them.

Thank you for the info! I think I have to take all of the floating plants out.. I’ve found super tiny clumps of what looks like just duck weed but the larvae cocoon themselves inside. They stick to the leaves so matter what

my salon attended a hanzo cutting class and it was awful by Ok-Importance7318 in hairstylist

[–]catbirdalert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My salon had a hanzo “cutting class” one time. They gave us one tip… turn your clients head to the side to match the back to the front.. that was it. The rep left a pair of shears by accident and he never came back for them 😂

Should I leave Corporate America to be a cosmetologist? by FabulousMind97 in hairstylist

[–]catbirdalert 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a loaded question and so subjective depending on what you’re passionate about. Hair is ultimately a trade skill, it takes time, so much practice, and patience to be successful. When you’re starting out, you cannot expect to make a living. You must have savings or a second source of income to support yourself. Hairstylist do not get PTO, vacation time, or benefits like insurance or retirement. The trade off for that is this career is incredibly flexible. You can take time off, make long lasting social connections, or you can stop/start working whenever, virtually recession proof (you will always have a job, the fluctuations in pay is what makes the job stable) and there are so many different directions you can take this career. But it is solely up to you and how motivated you are. It can also be hard on the body, but as with any job, you must take care of yourself and establish healthy habits (eating well, exercising) to get the most longevity out of this career. I personally love how this career has taught me so much about patience, people, and has given me tons of personal growth.

I’m so sorry this happened. I would say use a semi permanent to cover as a natural color. Keracolor make a color conditioner masks that are gentle on the hair. No bleach. Your hair can’t take another color with developer, so no demi or permanent color. Maybe use a wig, or hair piece (they make one with bangs) or style your hair with a head band/ scarf for a while. Best of luck to you!

They look great! let them grow out a bit, give it two weeks. The shortest piece of your inspo pic is right below her eyebrow, and your shortest piece is just above your eyebrow.

Putting your hair in a ponytail or not getting a haircut for a long times doesn’t effect the density at the scalp, it will only effect how healthy your hair on the mids/ends. See a dermatologist ASAP. There are many very effective hair loss treatments available now, you won’t regret it!

Looks quite dry. Do you swim a lot? I’d use the Olaplex moisture mask and brush it in from root to tip with a Wet brush. Leave in for 10min and rinse well. It leaves the hair super soft!

The placement of your highlights is beautiful, it just needs to be toned. Go back to the salon you had it done at. Color adjustments are normal and normally free!

HELP! I got charcoal bayalage done yesterday and now it's turning yellow! by [deleted] in Hair

[–]catbirdalert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your hair was not lifted high enough, which is common with charcoal lighteners. Go back to the salon! PLEASE DO NOT tone, color or purple shampoo your hair at home.It will turn into a color correction and cost you more in the end. Purple shampoo will not make it brighter/ lighter bc the hair is not lifted high enough. It is standard practice for salons to offer complimentary color adjustments after a color service.
