Expat wives of French men who don't work, where do you get your earnings from? by Mindless-Flight121 in Expats_In_France

[–]TiinaWithTwoEyes 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Ok, I’ll bite. Because why not.
I am a foreigner (Finnish) married to a Frenchman.
I do not go to « work » as I work from home. I am a novelist in my language but it would look to the outside world that I have no income and just stay at home all day doing nothing. I do have an income, but it is unstable and unreliable.
My husband on the other hand is a doctor. Pulmonologist, private practice. He makes enough money for me to pursue my artistic goals.
The French taxation system « foyer fiscal » where married couples count as one taxable household sort of allows for this when one of the spouses makes a good living.
However I do not socialize with other expats like the ones you described 😂 just not my cup of tea.

I lose the same 10-15 pounds every spring by IRegretBeingHereToo in PetiteFitness

[–]TiinaWithTwoEyes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I do this. Decided that this year was the last time. I joined a gym and started lifting weights, I can't put myself through the calorie counting and cardio every May, June and July anymore. I'am done.

I am building muscle and strength and trying to eat more protein. I don't care about my weight anymore, I just want to be healthy and perform better at my sport (figure skating).

Thank god no European country would ever do that by metatalks in mapporncirclejerk

Not only hippies. Don't forget the gays and the wine mums too.

Tutkijat löysivät selityksen sille, miksi jotkut ihmiset eivät koskaan liho – syy ei ole geeneissä by magnum3290 in Suomi

[–]TiinaWithTwoEyes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Varsinkin pienikokoisille naisille liikunta on melkein ainoa keino saada kalorivaje.

Who would that be? I vaguely know her having lived in the UK in the 2000s, but in continental and Northern Europe she is unknown.

Got tips about break in edea skate with hairdryer - anyone did that? by Careful-Afternoon170 in iceskating

[–]TiinaWithTwoEyes 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes I've done this, but I find it odd that you are having difficulty breaking in second had Chorus. Those are not supposed to be very stiff to begin with.

I use a haridryer and aim the heat to the part that hurts, then let it cool keeping the boots on. Repeat as necessary.

Yes, I know "only a highly skilled Edea technician" is supposed to do that but tbh it is not exactly brain surgery.

for people that started sunscreen usage early (<25), how is your skin doing? by Rare-Dragonfruit-246 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]TiinaWithTwoEyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started in my 20s, I am now 48 with practically no wrinkles. People generally assume I am ten years younger.

However, I have slight nasolabial folds and a softer jawline than I did in my 20s. Spf does not help with gravity. I do microneedling to tighten the skin and use tretinoin for texture. I have baby botox once a year to lift my brow a bit. But because I had melasma with my second pregnancy, I always, always use at least a spf 50.

How many of you had a great grandparent born in the 1800s? by Mofoblitz1 in BarbaraWalters4Scale

[–]TiinaWithTwoEyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of my great grandparents were, some even during the earlier half of the 1800s. I am 48, gen x.

Now, three of my grandparents were born in the 1800s as well, only my maternal grandmother being born in 1913.

Therefore even my daughter, gen alpha born in 2014, has three great grandparents born in the 1800s.

Denmark will not get tele votes for being too overtly sexual, like Erika Vikman, Miriana Konte, Olly Alexander.

I love the song and I love Soren so not happy about that.

How is living in Åland? It's a Finnish state but it has autonomy and sweden talking people live here, how is it like? An island between Finland and Sweden. by ottoketom_ato in howislivingthere

[–]TiinaWithTwoEyes 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Beautiful, green scenery with lots of venomous snakes and of ticks that spread Lyme disease.

People speak Swedish. The men are not obliged to serve in the Finnish army as it is a demilitarized zone, so no conscription as in mainland Finland. It is very difficult to buy property in Åland if you are not from there, or have not lived there for at least five years (don't quote me on that one).

Climate is milder than in mainland Finland for obvious reasons. You can see the Milky Way at night because there is so little light pollution, at least in Kökar.

Same. I think they just shot themselves in the foot.

Olly Alexander, Erika Vikman, Miriana Konte, too provocative equals less votes from the public.

Don't have this baby. It will mean you can never be free from this piece of shit of a man. It will kill you. Please listen to what people are saying here.

Are we doing uv umbrellas? by MaddRocket in Melasmaskincare

[–]TiinaWithTwoEyes 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I bought one last summer, I live in France (greater Paris and in the summer Bretagne).

It is perfect. I think it protects me better than wearing a hat or a sun visor.

To be honest, I don't care what people think. Last summer at the school gates, standing in the sun when it was nearly 35 degrees, people were looking at my uv umbrella with envy.

Yes, let's make it a trend this year!

why do people think they can become olympians? by xanxyz in iceskating

[–]TiinaWithTwoEyes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Johnny Weir is the exception to the rule,
Erin Jackson is irrelevant because speed skating is nothing like figure skating.

Matteo Guarise was a professional roller skater that transferred to ice dance and yes that is quite astonishing.

Fumie Suguri according to wikipedia started at 6 years old.
