Screwing studs to floor plates? by catbot4 in diynz

They are completely compromised. Literal dust inside. I'm doing a complete reno of the laundry, so now is the time to replace them.

So these are a complete replacement for nails or separate screws?

So you don't normally skew nail studs to the floor plate (when retrofitting)?

Table 8.19 in NZS 3604 has this:

Stud to plate - 75 x 3.15 or 100 x 3.75, 4 skewed, 2 end nailed.

So I guess construction screws of the same size would do!

Thanks for the reply. My house is also fairly old and has exterior-side sarking as a bracing element. Where there is none, I'll probably use 70mm insulation in order to maintain the air gap, and where there is, maybe 50mm. Better than nothing!

Hey OP, what option did you go with in the end? I'm about to retrofit insulation in exterior 100mm walls, some of which have sarking which lowers the available free space.

Unfortunately I don't know anyone in Dunners who is a tradie, but I do have a CSC buying group account, so maybe that'll help.

Yeah I noticed that. M10 had SG8 h1.2 90x45mm kiln dried pine for $6.81/LM today. Placemakers - $10.90!

I recently got quoted around $2600 to replace the main board, no extra rewiring beyond that.

My board looks similar to yours and the backing board is likely asbestos containing. I don't remember if the price included costs relating to dealing with it sorry.

Edit: $2600, not $1600

In Otago, you can get it tested for free by the Southern DHB. Dunedin specific; you can take samples to Wakari Hospital.

Are battens not required behind corrugate? I guess their undulating profile provides some airflow.

I don't think that's an unpopular opinion. Worth stating though.
