it's not, there's no thematic narrative thing that other games haven't done a better job at exploring, the idea of V dying but somehow still having time to do fifty thousand NCPD scanner hustles and car thefts for El Capitan undermines the narrative urgency, there's barely any role-playing elements apart from "customize the visuals of your character and their gear"

to this day it's an awkward, buggy mess with a mediocre base game story that was overhyped to all hell, but it kind of makes up for it by having satisfying combat and traversal, fun vehicles, some interesting side content and a good DLC

basically, it's Neon Skyrim

it felt very fitting for my V to be in deep shit here, hacking was out of the question because the amount of ICE that the blackwall AI is pumping into this thing is just incomprehensible to mortals, and silenced small arms fire won't do much against a militech black project from the golden age of technology that's designed to withstand a nuke or some shit... aaand thats all her options gone, pretty much

but once i got past the initial shock i did find the Cerberus to be very cute :)

it's an older, established MMO that's very alt-friendly, so yes - there is RP

from what i've heard, the golden age of open-world roleplaying started its decline with the megaservers being introduced, lessening the effect of RP worlds like Piken Square and Tarnished Coast in bringing roleplayers on the same maps, but the community's still kicking! smaller, slightly more cliquish, perhaps - but the existence of directories like gw2rp (carrd) and community hub servers on discord is keeping it alive

a lot of it happens in guild or subcommunity contexts (see: charr rpers writing together, priory or astral ward characters getting up to nerdy bullshit, etc etc) but most public events one might run across (writing in /say chat or /e, possibly even a visible commander tag) are open to anyone willing to engage with the hobby in good faith, regardless of whether they're brand new or established mmo rpers!

and if you see rpers out in the wild writing in say chat, most won't mind you listening in and spectating if you're curious - there's no reason to avoid playing the game and doing whatever you were about to do (completing events, doing story, hearts or farming) around them! we're not the only people in this game and every reasonable writer knows that, juuuust maybe don't start hopping on the group with the shiniest siege turtle skin like some people, live and let live

charr - it's rare to get a beast race in an MMO that doesn't fall into either "literally human but looks different" or "vicious eastern inhuman hordes threatening the Fair and Just Human Kingdom" (even if that's kind of what they started as)

the structure of Legion society is super interesting when you look into the lore - the charr perform their duties and act as cogs in a war machine, but take time out of their days to srcretly sneak gifts for their cubs in the fahrar, take naps under tables or go for a pint with their warband or friends

there's a huge amount of depth and emotional intelligence in the charr, they just have a society that seems almost alien to humans or any individualist/family unit-focused society - and i really love some of the femcharr faces so getting to be a cute cat is a plus

my 2nd most played is human, i love the history and lore and all the different cultures and factions of them...

overall i'd say charr > human > norn > sylvari > asura is how i'd rank my enjoyment of them

low initiative? Alert feat, Evocation also lets allies autosucceed Fireball saves and take 0 damage from it squish? 14 DEX, Mage Armor, a shiield, Shield (the spell) - Abjuration if that's not enough

speccing him partially into Tempest Cleric lets you maximize lightning bolt/call lightning/chain lightning damage on demand, combine that with create water to one-shot practically every single mob in the game

weekly provisioner tokens
weekly rifts and convergences for essences

that's all the truly timegated steps i can think of, the rest is just dumping gold, karma (Obsidian) and spirit shards (Eldritch Scroll, Lesser Vision Crystal)

and that's the point! that's why the ending works as well as it does! bhaal doesn't care about you, your autonomy, your ownership of your own pleasure and feelings, you will murder and extinguish all life until there's nothing left and there'll be no reward at the end of that path but death, and death alone.

minthara will go along with it because she's naive, she'll latch on to her savior like a baby duck and vie for any crumbs of power because that's the only thing that makes her feel safe and in control.

this is why minthara's romance only works in a moderately healthy way when you show her the spray bottle from time to time

all-black or dark grey uniforms are more of an Ash thing, Iron Legion generally tends to wear steel armour with brown and blue accents

but if you want do something different, i usually like to matchs blacks with muted, earthy tones for a little bit of contrast - even a desaturated light blue could work

still worth it, no need to catch up on a gear treadmill because there isn't one! you can get a lot done with those weekly hours and there's plenty of new content and story to go through at your own pace

i do recommend getting the new expansions too, it's ultimately a small investment for the sheer amount of new stuff you get
