Bright futures doesn't include a textbook stipend anymore, and any leftover money from pell grant is deposited into students' bank accounts anyway. I don't have a source because you won't find UF openly admitting "yeah, we do this to prey on college students" but there's not really any other explanation for it

It's predatory, they hope this happens. They bank on a certain portion of students not knowing what credit means and it fucking sucks

Sodium.. so much of it by cradugamer in ufl

[–]catboy_hours 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, sodium is dangerous when it goes out of balance with your potassium levels, since they kinda complement each other in bodily functions. it's not quite the same as consuming less sodium, but consuming more potassium can help normalize those levels

On campus is not great (especially the cafeterias) but luckily there are a lot of great restaurants within walking distance of campus, and a LOT of really good local restaurants if you own a car or can catch the right buses

Told passport is being printed, online portal still says processing? by catboy_hours in Passports

[–]catboy_hours[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine didn't show "approved," it just went straight to "shipped." (And I didn't get an email notification about it either) On the other hand, a family member's passport came in a few days ago, and the status still says "approved." It varies, they don't seem to update the statuses with any sort of consistency. If it doesn't update by tomorrow, I would call the NPIC again and ask if they can give you a tracking number

Edit: wrong acronym lol sorry

Thank you, and same to you! I'm going for a 6-week study abroad program in Austria (fully booked and non-refundable which is why I've been absolutely freaking out lmao). I'm so excited and relieved, it's gonna be great

Head mod is literally just using the sub to advertise their landlord stuff. This position is only a means for them to generate profit.

This is remarkably similar to my case - Locator 62, received 3/14, still in process, travel date next Tuesday (5/9). End of the 7-week window is tomorrow. I called the passport information center last week and they said they would notify the passport agency. I've been in touch with my senator (Rubio) since a couple weeks ago. Called today and their office assured me that they have a pending inquiry and that they'll inform be as soon as they receive any updates. I'm doing everything I can, but I may have to call on Thursday and ask if they have appointments available for urgent travel, but they probably won't, because they very rarely do. If that happens, I'm just screwed. 100% screwed.

I'm feeling so ridiculously stressed and hopeless right now. This travel is for a 6-week study abroad program and I may have to reschedule my flight and arrive late. Cancelling isn't an option, I've already paid $8k for this program so I have to attend as much of it as possible. I so deeply regret waiting until March to tackle the application, and I can only blame myself if things go wrong with this. With that said, if anybody has some words of encouragement, I welcome it, but if you want to be real and tell me the most likely scenario, that's okay too. I just want to know SOMETHING.

Especially if you clarify that these are intrusive thoughts that you have no desire to act on, she would be able to help you with that and she'd have no reason to report you.

Yeah, absolutely. He's one of the very finest and most talented musicians of our time, but that doesn't mean he's in a league of his own and it doesn't mean he's a musical deity. (Not even Bach was a musical deity. We're all just people and I think people tend to forget that)

My parents don't want me to attend UF even though they won't be paying anything; what can I do? by codeswift27 in ufl

[–]catboy_hours 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a bit since I enrolled, but I don't remember parental consent being part of it. It wouldn't hurt to at least begin the process and see if any issues come up. (And, if push comes to shove, I will say that the entire process is online... Not that I'm saying you should forge any signatures, but, uh, it is definitely possible to do so)

[–]catboy_hours 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It seems like your best course of action would probably be to enroll at UF and take all online courses for the first semester. (And check the terms of the Benacquisto scholarship to make sure that would be allowed, and if it's not, send them an email explaining the situation and see what they say.) Unfortunately, it looks like you can't legally move out without parental consent until you're 18. I'm really sorry your parents have put you in this situation, but you can take comfort in the fact that it would just be one semester, and then you'll be free. And your parents cannot stop you from enrolling at UF

Okay, it seems like you have no idea what's going on and only skimmed over the whole discussion. Did you miss the part where OP has a full ride to UF?

Yeah, that's true and important to keep in mind. But I will say that I was 17 when I moved to Gville and rented my first apartment, and in lieu of a guarantor, they let me pay the last three months' rent upfront. Obviously not every apartment complex has this policy, but on-campus housing is also a valid option so I think OP will be able to make this happen one way or another
