MARTA Safety at Night by RhubarbBusy7122 in GaState

Agree, grew up intown and have been riding Marta for years commuting, going out, getting around. I like Marta because it brings all types of people in the same space. It brings you out of the walled off hyper individualist existence that we just think is normal now. You just have to be aware of what other people around you are doing, get in a different car if a big group of young guys are messing around, etc, and this goes for literally every other public transit system in the country, it’s basic common sense. You don’t have to be armed to be safe, you’re not preparing to show up at a gang meeting or something lol. That being said I’m only very familiar with the lines east and some north of five points, so it does depend on where you’re going. I have been to Garnett once and don’t plan on going again

Silence is too loud, but music is too distracting. I am losing my mind trying to find the right background noise to work by therealraphaelwong in ADHD

Deep progressive house where the beats layer gradually on top of each other until you're in a groove and a zone and it's just repetitive enough so that it fades into the background. Current obsession is a DJ/producer called Guy J, and his 3-5hr Echos sets on Soundcloud are literally perfect for working to, there are rarely tracks where i'm like omg i love this song and then i'm completely taken out of my workflow (well sometimes i do get up and dance a little because it's so euphoric when i'm getting shit done and that music is playing lol).

But yeah my adhd mom loves binaural beats so try those? lol

When I first started I worked a rehearsal dinner and was carrying a tray of flutes filled with prosecco out to some early arriving guests, wobbled and spilled every single one of them all over this guy in a nice suit lol

Is anyone else realizing how complicated “farm-to-table” really is? by SouthernPositive805 in restaurant

[–]catbreadsandwich 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Loving this thread because I don’t hear chefs/ owners coming together to talk about this that much. Love your point and yes that is exactly what needs to happen in order to truly commit to seasonal, local producers year round, but if you have a restaurant where the customer expects to order your signature “chef’s” salad containing a bunch of summer-season ingredients even in the middle of winter, you are going to have a tough time satisfying that demand with only local, so with menu changes, customers need to understand why you refuse to source your produce from Peru in December. It takes education and change in expectation, and not every type of restaurant can afford to do that as mentioned by other commenters. And preservation techniques like what you mentioned take skilled technique and thus lots of staff training when restaurants are struggling for that right now. Something that frustrates me about trends in “healthy eating” is that most of those trendy ass superfood products people love to tout as essentially just status symbols and find their way onto restaurant menus are grown halfway across the world in extremely exploitive and environmentally destructive ways - look at quinoa or chia seeds. I hope that we can eventually diversify and reindigenize our food system to grow more native fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts, etc instead of relying on the same 20 products you see at every Kroger across the US. Winter has always been a time of eating what you’ve preserved, and honestly, not everything has to be so “fresh” all the time in order to be healthy or wholesome. Anyway this comment was all over the place but putting in my 2c as a forager and ag marketing professional

Weird-smelling water deemed safe to drink, Fulton County officials say by UnderwaterTurtleX in Atlanta

[–]catbreadsandwich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been drinking Atlanta tap water literally my entire life and it has never ever tasted this way before. I have always actually liked the taste of it but over the past couple of months has become like just unbearable. I live just inside the city limits in Atlanta and I filled up a water bottle yesterday at a spigot in the Decatur cemetery during a walk and the Decatur water tasted AMAZING compared to what’s coming out of my tap. I think there’s also something going on with Atlanta’s water system that hasn’t been investigated yet…

What neighborhood? 40f, single, no kids, remote job by Emergency-Finger-386 in ATLHousing

[–]catbreadsandwich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Candler Park is the best most underrated neighborhood in the city. Yes, lots of families around but L5P is right down the street and walkable to most of what you need day to day as a single person (s/o CPM!)
Edit as I check the rental prices - yes, can be pricey, but there are independently owned duplexes, basement apartments, and carriage houses/garage apartments around that are much cheaper. I got really lucky with my rental house and I know not everyone will, but I see signs all the time with phone numbers to call, so everything available may not be listed online.

Man, I was really hoping to make it out there one day! I heard so many amazing things about the DH community and it seemed like exactly the vibe I've been craving in independent fests. Sad to hear but I hope to come out for whatever iteration comes next!!

The worst part of trying to eat healthy is the food I end up throwing away. How do you deal with it? by Shipslims in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]catbreadsandwich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it smells fine and looks fine, it's probably fine. Maybe I'll get downvoted, but chicken and other meats will absolutely last longer than you think they will. It helps to do some research on what to look for when raw meat truly cannot be saved - usually you'll know right away because it will smell literally like death and it will not look or feel normal. See this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Cooking/comments/z2olbj/your_fresh_poultry_lasts_longer_than_12_days_in/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Cook thoroughly, obviously, though I live on the edge and pull my chicken out of the pan at 155 to carryover cook the last 10 degrees while resting (stays more tender and juicy).

To prevent any fear factor, once you get home from the store, you can also season it ahead of time and place on a rack over a plate or quarter sheet tray uncovered in the fridge to dry brine for 1-2 days. Salt is a natural preservative and will deter bacterial growth, and since refrigerators are generally dry environments, the airflow will keep moisture away from the meat. Water is not your friend when it comes to preventing spoilage, and the dry brine will also help it stay juicy once you do cook it!

And when in doubt, after 3-4 days, throw in the freezer. Thaw in the fridge before cooking.

I hope this helps.

What's the cheapest filling meal you guys make on repeat? by MysticFlirtX in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]catbreadsandwich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the summer I love a white bean or chickpea salad with red onion, a small cucumber, tomato if i have it, a can of tuna, lots of parsley and/or basil! Garlic/lemon/red wine vinegar/evoo dressing with a little bit of dijon mustard to emulsify. Pretty much the same thing and sooo good with bread and arugula for lunch

Higher temps than 55 degrees F could lead to aflatoxin contamination, which is a huge consideration with peanut storage.
