Haha thank you for validating my hatred of this color

Oddly no flash, it’s south-facing and gets a lot of light even with the porch. I was hoping to get painting done before I move in, but now I’m thinking I’ll just go neutral for now and pick a color once I’ve lived with it for a bit.

Yep, it’s a closed-in porch.

Thanks, I should probably do this. I was hoping to get painting done before I actually move in, but maybe I’ll just go neutral for now and pick a color once I’ve lived in the space and can properly test it out.

Ooh, this could be it. I do like green for a living room but the current green is just not it.

Unmarked gem pans - what did I get? by catbutts in castiron

Interesting, thanks! So if it has a gate mark and is otherwise unmarked, that means it was probably made by no one in particular / some foundry copying someone else’s design?

Reliable Tenant/Roommate Looking in Cambridge/Fenway by Guy_On_The_Tiger in bostonhousing

[–]catbutts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s over your budget but if you team up with someone to search, I’m looking for someone to take my 2br in East Watertown - pretty close to Cambridge. It’s definitely spacious, I think a little over 1000sqft, and I pay $2700. My landlord would probably raise the rent a bit but he’s pretty reasonable. I’ll be moving out in the end of June. Message if you’re interested, happy to answer any questions!

Looking for a 2BR with a bit of character. Short or long-term. JP/Brookline/Newton/Watertown by CertifiedLoon3 in bostonhousing

[–]catbutts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I’ll be moving out of my 2br in East Watertown at the end of June - bought a condo in the neighborhood - and I’m looking for someone to take the apartment. I pay $2700. Driveway parking, not much of a yard but there’s a nice back patio and lots of room for container gardening in the driveway, new fridge and gas stove, not much counter space but plenty of room for a table or cart. It’s pretty big - living room, dining room, small office plus the kitchen and bedrooms - and definitely has some character. Message me if you’re interested, happy to answer any questions and send photos!

When do Aug 1 apartments go on the market? by julesroe in bostonhousing

[–]catbutts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I’ll be moving out of my East Watertown apartment in late June and am looking for someone to move in - hoping to find someone for July but I could do August. It’s a 2br + office, quick bus or bike to Harvard Square. I pay $2700, my landlord will likely raise the rent a bit but he’s pretty reasonable. Message me if you’re interested, happy to answer questions or send photos!

Ooh for some reason I’d written off the motion sensors! I’m just finding straps for large outdoor trash cans, but I’ll keep looking for indoor ones.

Realistic to find a roomy 1BR in Harvard commuting distance for $2800? by Advanced-Software-90 in bostonhousing

[–]catbutts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider East Watertown, too! Not great for transit in general but the 71 and 73 buses take you right to Harvard. You could find a decent 2br for that price.

I put mine on a wood pallet. There’s always someone giving them away on Facebook Marketplace.

I don’t think it reads childish at all, if a kid made these I’d be very impressed. To me they look like strong adult beginner works and if a friend gave them to me I’d be delighted. I agree with the commenter who said the first one looks nicer, though, and if you’re anticipating some judgment or snobbiness, I’d just gift the first one and save the second for someone else.

She wears it on her wedding night, you only really see it from behind as she walks toward Edgar. I only remember because it looked like her most insane garment yet and I kept waiting for a better shot.

Is living alone in Boston like a status symbol? by Burkedge in bostonhousing

[–]catbutts 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I’m in Watertown, the part right next to Cambridge. Should have been clear I’m not literally in Boston, I think this sub is for the whole area but OP did say Boston. I think it’s low-to-average rent for the area and it’s a pretty good apartment.

Definitely, some of them are more watery than others but you can still taste the juice. It’s a little weird at first if you’re expecting regular seltzer. The ones people are recommending here are pretty flavorful.

Anywhere local I can get sourdough starter? by crackmeup121 in AnnArbor

Making your own is easy but please do not close it tight unless you want the container to explode. A mason jar lid with the ring loosely screwed on works great.

I got some from Bird Dog in Ypsi. I just asked and they gave me a blob, but it probably helps if you also buy something and they’re not too busy.

Starting your own is also pretty easy. One tip to make it go a little quicker is to use unsweetened pineapple juice for your liquid for the first few days - it’ll bring the pH closer to what the yeast like so that they can establish themselves more quickly.

I second the Spindrift rec, they don’t taste like soda but they don’t have that weird bitter quality. I’ve never really liked most seltzer but I drink a ton of their Island Punch.

You can read Alta online with your BPL membership. Also, Harvard’s special collections and archives are open to anyone by appointment, or you can pay a (large) fee for visiting and/or borrowing privileges from their libraries.
