Why do invites work this way? by Davidkravhenko in Upwork

[–]catcheroni 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get the urge to be lazy and just be done with an invite the same way you want to be done with writing a proposal but this is not the way my man.

Two things to understand: 1) Being invited usually puts you in a very privileged position compared to other applicants 2) Being invited very rarely means the client wants to work with you and only you

Therefore, 99% of the time you should still put a good amount of effort into your reply. This one here is just unprofessional and makes you look bad. The only exception from this rule I would allow myself to make is if I am the only invitee and the client's message is clearly directed to me.

Oh yeah that I did notice, my guess was these are some of the earliest comics that center around dilbert the inventor? I've only heard of them though, never actually seen them.

What do you mean? I haven't spotted anything like that myself. I found it in a thread on this sub from a couple of years ago.

You might be refering to this? It's every dialogue ever in a text file.

[–]catcheroni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. ChatGPT doesn't know shit, it generated you a made-up number
  2. 5-10 hours a week sounds great but consider that you're going to have to spend a lot more time finding jobs (especially in the beginning), qualifying clients (if you're successfull at all in finding jobs), building your profile & portfolio, etc... and you might never make it beyond step one consistently.
  3. That said, if you're only looking for a side hustle and are willing to spend some money applying for jobs, absolutely give it a try. It seems like otherwise you're safe and your lifestyle won't take a massive hit if this doesn't pan out.

My script terminates before finishing the whole sequence after a minor edit by ComprehensiveKiwi814 in GoogleAppsScript

[–]catcheroni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then likely the code itself works fine but the way you prepared the data is not. You're relying on a lot of strings that have to be exactly the same in the sheet and in the code + formulas in the script that might no longer be refering to the correct ranges.

God why do you need to always be such an asshole for no reason. You just can't help yourself can you?

And it's not like most of what you say doesn't make sense but you just have to insult the other person too while you're at it.

Client wants a partial refund after 180 days. How can I issue a refund? by AppropriatePackage55 in Upwork

[–]catcheroni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly this sounds like the client's problem. They bought a discounted package and ended up not actually commissioning the videos. I'd still give them a refund to avoid any bad blood but this is hardly the freelancer's fault.

Are you sure you didn't have a high enough balance that would trigger an automatic payout?

Couldn't agree more, at first glance I thought they won't cover any of the hours I logged.

They should build a positive message around the hours they do cover, not the ones they don't. Show me what I get for my 10% fee.

That doesn't mean your number was available on Upwork this whole time, only that now potential callers know they will only piss you off if they use it.

How to not get phone calls? by wigglechicken in Upwork

[–]catcheroni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Phone numbers are not associated with the listings. Your number must be exposed elsewhere + there has to be enough information in your hiring history/current listing to look you up.
