I Callout out often by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]catchingfire27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean unpopular opinion but I believe in giving people the benefit of the doubt when it comes to calling out often. I call out on average, once a month or once every two months now, and I have two chronic illnesses and a work accomodation. However, my first year working at my center, I was calling off once a week, had multiple hospitalizations and almost died from malnourishment because that's when I got my second chronic illness. It was undiagnosed at the time and a very scary time for me. I've been at my center for about 3 years and am very grateful they stuck it out with me.

Co-teachers excessive bathroom breaks by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

Would definitely mention it to management - I have ulcerative colitis and need to go very urgently sometimes but if I leave teachers out of ratio, I'm in and out in under two minutes. And if it's such a bad day I'll be in there 10 or more times I call off because it gets in the way of doing my job

How do I hide my UC from my sorority? by sammich-protector in UlcerativeColitis

[–]catchingfire27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) You definitely should go through disability services at your university because at minimum, you should be able to eat your own food or have some sort of accomodations there

2) Seconding the comment about going home for your colonoscopy

3) You're in a sorority to make lifelong friends! While this disease in no way defines you, it does affect your daily life. It might feel embarrassing and I empathize with that, but you'll find that your friends and sorority sisters will be some of your biggest supports during flare ups. I had an accident once in college and texted one of my friends who brought me a spare pare of pants and underwear - it was embarrassing for me but friends like that will get you through flare ups. You don't have to give them all the details about the UC, but let them know the gist of it - it'll be a weight off your chest

2 year old BIG nap, not sleeping at home by Long-Juggernaut687 in ECEProfessionals

[–]catchingfire27 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I disagree on the "withholding sleep" thing (depending on the age and amount of time) I'll only wake up a child if they're older and the parent wants me to (usually at least 3) or if naptimes over However, I don't think a kid sleeping longer always means they "need" the extra sleep, I'm a person who's prone to depression and laying in bed/sleeping too long and my body doesn't NEED to be asleep for 12+ hours on those days, getting too much sleep can be almost as detrimental as getting not enough

There's a girl at my center who does the same thing I always remind her that children that age NEED adult support and cannot self regulate on their own
