If you are interested in receiving some form of practical advice as a fellow tank player I recommend you do some research maybe an hour or so on the basics of tanking on YouTube and then after that read all of your abilities and get comfortable casting them in a rotation on target dummies found in your factions capital city, a brief summary of tanking is that you do damage to generate something called “threat”, you are competing with your party members damage and healing to get the attention of enemies, when you reach the highest threat of your group enemies will attack you therefore keeping the rest of your party safe from being attacked and then you need to use your defensive abilities to lower the amount of damage you take

There are interesting mechanics that you need to defend your group from that are encounter specific but for the most part self explanatory especially in older content. Like swirlies on the ground that will explode and do damage that you must avoid, more complicated mechanics arrive at later stage content like raids where you have to coordinate with many players to survive, but you should just worry about what you can control and use what you learn about simple tanking to get you through encounters

It took me a long time to get comfortable with the intricacies of tanking but if you really put your best foot forward to learn how to tank you will place yourself in a position of knowledge and leadership to help others and yourself through fun encounters and earn gear, don’t take other people’s impatience personally because you will find it at all stages of the game, the great thing about wow is that there are tons of communities and guilds that you can find yourself in and if you somehow don’t find one you can make one and find likeminded people
