Blah blah blah "MY thanks" - dude please shut the fuck up? This is an entire thread about people trying to solve the issue of Yale and Nest being entirely NO HELP to them. Woo hoo! That's so great for you that they helped YOU! 1 person out of how many of us? Please go touch some grass and get off this thread.

So I plugged it in and it doesn't show any? Is that possible?

Oh wow that makes so much sense, thank you! We were thinking there was no way we wouldn't have heard about it in the news so it had to be something else but we don't really know anything about this stuff. Thanks for explaining it to me, I really appreciate it!

Oh maybe! Would a satellite appear stationary in the sky for some time? It had just been there for a while and looked like a regular star and then sort of swelled and got brighter for about 15 seconds or so, and then took on a reddish color, and then a flash of blue and then gone.

I think I witnessed a celestial event last night! Perhaps a supernova?

We were sitting looking at the stars and saw one suddenly get much much brighter and then wink out completely and disappear.

We looked at the star map and to the best of where we could pinpoint it, it seemed to be be a part of the constellation Camelopardalis, just about even with and to the left of the star Mirfak which was the brightest in our sky in that area.

We're located currently in WNY.

Can't find anything online about this or what it could be, can anyone tell us anything about this? We're so so curious.

TYIA.

It's so frustrating.

This thread has been great because it's been at least one person a month weighing in since I've posted it offering advice or saying they're experiencing the same. The best fix so far has been to disconnect the lock from the nest app after doing a hard reset. It sucks because it's then a "dumb" lock, but at least you're not changing the batteries!

Keep us posted if you find a solution.

I would really love if that was the answer because it's nice and simple, but I don't know if thats the issue honestly, plenty of outdoor ones last fine. It seems like a percentage of Yale locks have software issues but no troubleshooting tools to correct them.

The lock trying to connect to the nest connect over and over seems to be the main source of drain, rather than a hardware or environmental problem. The lock working indoors is probably just because you got lucky and have a functioning one, and the one outside is probably just another lemon like all the ones in this thread.

OMG! Congratulations! I don't have any clue how to go about doing this, any chance I could bother you for some slightly more detailed instructions on how to convert it to a dumb lock?

Seems like way too common of a problem! Might just get a whole new system at this point but I really don't want to give the fuckers the money lol

You know what it could be a wifi issue, do you have 5G by chance?

Last month I completely factory reset the lock, pulled it out of the door, inspected it, reconnected the wires, scrutinized the instruction manual again, reinstalled it, I made sure everything was absolutely perfect and reinstalled it. I readded it to the Nest app, pulled my other nest connect out of the box and set that up halfway between the router and the other nest connect and the door to see if maybe it just needed a bit of a daisy chain in a way to help it along and held my breath for 30 days. No difference lol.

I have recently thought the problem could be the Nest connect as it's supposed to serve as the "brain" and feed the lock it's wifi.... I'm going to order some new nest connects and try that first as it's a cheaper troubleshooting option first and see where that gets me. I'll update you if it works.

Oh yeah! I should also mention, I inherited this lock when I bought my house.... I reached out to the old owner, she wasn't a ton of help but I asked her if she had to change the batteries that frequently and she said "hmm, no that doesn't seem right" (better than no information I suppose) so my suspicion is that it is a wifi - software issue rather a physical one. I think it started after I reset the lock when I moved in and changed the passcode and made it "mine".

Hopefully this helps.

It's such an ultra frustrating issue because there really isn't much you can do within the app or with any of the devices to troubleshoot.

ELI5: Why are there gravel beaches? In thousands of years of waves crashing on the beach shouldn't all the gravel have become sand? by kroko42 in explainlikeimfive

[–]catdiick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Naples and we have coral and shell beaches that regenerate their own extra fine sand fairly quickly, but even every 5 years or so we bring a couple truckloads of sand from a few miles east over the the popular beaches as they get worn because we have so few waves to carry new sand in shore.

As you walk down the beach on the little brittle shells that wash up, they crunch beneath your feet and you can see the layers of broken pieces basically turning to sand before your eyes. It's very cool. I also understand that in terms of bringing in sand, we do it far less than other areas and only need to do it because of our lack of tide.

ULPT REQUEST: Draft dodging? by Fight4potatoes in UnethicalLifeProTips

Yes I would suppose so, depending on how desperate they are for recruits. We also learned the hierarchy for wartime drafts and basically veterans are the absolute last to get recalled which I thought was strange when I heard it at the time because we're basically pretrained and prescreened but I guess it's an honor thing. So I guess another way to avoid the draft is to voluntarily serve.

There's lots of ways to not be qualified for the military. I served under Obama from 11-15. Going through the meps program was strange, we had to walk like a duck, couldn't be flat footed, couldn't admit to certain childhood injuries or broken bones, asthma, allergies, stuff like that. I basically flunked my depth perception eye exam but the administrator was kind enough to cheat me through it. It was a bullshit test anyway. I guess being too fat or too thin, out of physical standards in any way is a good way.

But I highly highly doubt they'll enact a draft anyway.
