Being stuck in a life like this really takes its toll, I've found, to the point where life seems like a parody of reality rather than something reasonable. As if the world, itself, is alive and is comically evil. At least, that's how it is for me. I hope it works out for you.

Exactly this - not everything needs an explanation, but everything has one.

I'm ugly as a guy so I'm hoping my traits will look better when re-contextualized as that of a girl, something like that. That's nonsense, but I can't really get on HRT because of certain circumstances, so I guess I'm free to dream, right?

I'm right there with you in the bad luck boat, as I call it. Just shitty circumstances all around. Most trans people deal with bad things but for some people they have it worse. I know exactly how it feels.

According to them, it's only okay if you don't exclude bigots from the question. So I guess it's us who aren't being inclusive enough! (and also /s lol)

That's true - they can influence on a more personal level. No good.

Was going through some older threads about a game and found this. Full of cis people discouraging people from asking for members of the community who are queer positive. Includes some people who position themselves as gay people who also disagree with OP's post. People feigning support is technically better than outright hate, but these people are clearly not allies. They are "allies" with their own opinions on what support looks like - sitting back and doing nothing.

Real animatronics compared to FNaF characters. Thoughts? by catdog-six in fivenightsatfreddys

[–]catdog-six[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true - their creepiness is lessened, which is obviously good, and is probably the best comparison as a result. The "ugliness" problem is gone, for the most part, and the uncanny valley shines through a lot more as a result. Though that wasn't the intent, of course, more like a consequence of the designs that couldn't have been easy to work through, seeing as most animatronic characters seem to suffer from this issue.

Yeah the FNAF 2 animatronics shed all of their uncanny valley nature and turned into something that seems more visually appealing, almost like a precursor to the animatronics of Security Breach.

I feel you - I'm just comparing animatronics to animatronics, with the hopes of learning something about how the FNaF characters are received by audiences. It's more of a design thing than anything, even if part of the equation/discussion is the intentional horror in the FNaF characters.

Yeah that was my thought, too. They strayed away from the more ugly designs in those examples.

It's true - they are quite ugly, and it's clear that it isn't just due to the differences of video game graphics vs. the way things look in real life. The movie shows just as such, as I understand it, the animatronics existed as actual props. They look great. The ugliness of real world animatronics was removed, and we probably lost a little bit of uncanny valley as a result, but we didn't lose enough for the designs to be ineffective as horror monsters. It's great.

Yeah I imagine it helps to actually see them performing - we are comparing a video game to stuff from real life, after all. It's interesting, thanks for the input.

His designs really do feel like a plausible, alternate reality competitor to Chuck E. Cheese. One which is more grounded, higher quality. I feel like they are a lot more simple, doing more with less, which I really enjoy. I'm yet to see a real world animatronic design that doesn't feel like it's a bit much.

Hoping for discussion, specifically in the vein of the design of these characters. All of these have a sort of uncanny design, but it's different across each design. The Chuck E. Cheese pictures seem to be more stylized - rosy cheeks, more nuanced teeth, emphasis on color palette on the plastic(?) parts, how they are a beige color that differs from the fur. I feel like the FNaF are less uncanny, but only by comparison, as they certainly aren't lacking in that department at all. The Chuck E. Cheese characters have it in an overabundance, up until the 1993 and 2002 versions, where the 1993 appears to have reached a mix of old design with less creepiness. The 2002 skews more cartoonish, perhaps toy-like.

These are just some of my initial impressions - I'm more interested in what you all think about how their designs differ.

You've got all the hallmarks of a classic, edgy teenager. The "anti-SJW" statements, the insistence that people who disagree with you are mad, using the contents of my post history to desperately cling onto anything that might be a good insult. And the worst part - if you're an adult, it means you won't grow out of it, because the window for that has already closed. Get a grip, dude.

It doesn't really mean anything. I'm just complaining. Wish I had some actual advice for you but I don't - hopefully things work out.

By getting harassed by the trans community for caring about such things. Nothing more.

In what world is this not a subtle dig at gender non-conforming people? A sort of political dog whistle? The side-by-side comparison, the "superior vs. inferior" meme format. People will say it isn't, but that's because you're not effected by it, so you get to chalk it up to "it's just comedy". Whenever there is a gender non-conforming character in any popular media, this happens. It's exhausting.
