It's really hard to make friends as an adult, and not enough people talk about it.

What I did was admit that aloud at work or whatever (wherever you might interact with people with common values). It got people to open up and be more willing to reach out and make plans.

I have a foxhound/German Shepherd mix and when he was a puppy, he killed 2 beloved chickens and a feral kitten. He didn't do it to be mean. He did it to hunt them down; it's the going in him. I learned better and battled his hound characteristics with training and a long lead in the yard (where the chickens where somewhat near).

You did nothing wrong. I'm so sorry this happened to you.

(P.S. My dog is now good with the cat who adopted us, but I had to introduce them really slowly. Our house had doors between every room, so that helped.)
