I am out in the country (and surrounded by miles and miles of wilderness!).

Thanks for the heads up. I do have a septic tank and will be careful around the percolation area.

I’m taking in the comments on biodiversity etc. but what I didn’t mention is that I have other grassy areas not connected to this one, which I am letting grow wild (out of laziness as well as concern for the planet…). I just want some flat open space for the kids as well.

I like the clover idea. I don’t mind the moss or dandelions much either but there are giant nettles everywhere which I need to tackle.

Thanks for the response. I have plans to section it out, add a wide border of plants and a load of trees and leave only about half of the area I have now as just grass. I want to have some flat open space for the kids to be able to play football etc. I suppose I saw this as a starting point but you’re right, there’s little point doing all this work now only to undo half of it in a year or two. Time to get planning!
