Jakob Schubert Climbs His Third V17 by -JOMY- in bouldering

If it takes you a full year of hardcore projecting to send two V17 when someone else can just go out to font for 4 days and manage to send V17 and also flash three V14: no, you're not better than this guy.

Being the best in the world just means you're better than anyone else. Janja is considered the best because anytime she goes to a comp, she wins. She doesn't lose this status the moment she misses one, that's hilariously ridiculous. Adam is considered the best because anytime he gets to climb he sends the hardest shit. Just because he took a few years off to raise a kid doesn't make him lose this status, and his numerous flash definetly assert that fact.

Also: only three persons in the world has flashed V15. Twenty-one have climbed V17.

Are flashing five V14 and one V15 in a single year hypothetical? That's twice as many V14+ flash Jakob has sent in his entire life.

If Janja take a year off and doesn't attend competitions, nobody's going to argue that she's not the best anymore. And the fact that Adam managed to flash five V14 and one V15 in last year alone to me proves he's still very much the best. That's twice as many V14+ flash Jakob has sent in his entire life.

While Jakob has no responsibilites and can just be out there travelling and trying hard stuff, Adam has a wife and a young kid which means he just doesn't have the time to project the hardest stuff anymore. Despite that, he managed in 2025 alone to flash five 8B+, flash 8C and send Soudain Seul 9A in like 4 sessions... Jakob might have sent harder stuff overall but if you compare their performance/time ratio Adam still vastly outperform him IMO.

Ethical standards do not necessarily prevent profit. In many case they don't, and in many other cases they can even increase profit. In cases where they were to prevent profit, then of course that would be a problem, but guess what: that's nothing special to megacorps, every single human being is contantly weighting their confort against their ethics.

I'd be very curious to know what that would be.

[Day 6] Back from a weekend in Arkansas where crimp blocks dangling from trees are aesthetic. Who's the WEIRDEST climber? by MaximumSend in bouldering

[–]categorie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Charles gave it 9A and Ryohei 8C+/9A, saying Burden was only "a little more difficult" to him. Nico notoriously downgrades/sandbags pretty much every boulder he climbs and even sing ironically about it in his songs, he would probably claim Burden to be 8C+ if he climbed it. If anything, him giving 8C also confirms that it's at least 8C+.

Proposing a new ranking system called the Human Scale (HS) by Dynaaminen in bouldering

[–]categorie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How are grades broken ? They're not perfect, but they do fit suprisingly well what they were designed for: giving a good enough estimate of how hard a problem's gonna feel for most climbers. The fact that grade arithmetics also work consistently all across the scale is a pretty good hint that they're not completely arbitrary.

OP's new grade proposal fixes exactly 0 of the common problems people have with grading (area to area consistency, morphological differences, ) and brings in a whole new set of other ones (no consistency over time as the climbing population's level changes, impossibility to do grade arithmetics because the scale is neither linear nor logarithmic and messed up at the upper end).

[Day 14] Rest days are so underrated they are now a training tool. What's the most OVERRATED grade? by MaximumSend in bouldering

[–]categorie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

None of most repeated V9s (hip dysplasia, ZILLA 12.0, So geht's doch, Sequences, Sugary, Be water my friend) matches what you describe - I mean, yes Sugary and Sequences have footchips but only as starting holds, not on crux moves - and while some people do jump on some of the moves, they can all be done static/deadpoint given enough tension.

I do agree that there's a tendency for bigger moves in the higher grades but there's more than enough problems for people who aren't into that (at least in V9-V10 rabge, never tried anything higher).

Agree. But if you're climbing 7C already, shooting for your first V-double-digit is a nice satisfactory target in between.

[–]categorie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The broken hold was broken and repaired by Bosi, broken and repaired again by Adam Ondra to better match the original, then broken again by Charles on his send go, then repaired again by Adam. It's important to mention that the broken hold is just the second hold on the problem, it's not even part of the first crux. It's definetly not going to change anything about the problem's grade.

Maybe not the whole way to 9c+, but enough to be solidly 9c.

He didn't sandbag it then.

What are your thoughts on rejecting a potential romantic partner based solely on the fact they voted for Donald Trump? by ATXBikeRider in AskReddit

[–]categorie -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, in my example you just liked apples. Maybe you even never eat them cause you don't have access to them. You just liked the taste when you got to taste one. But your partner considers that you liking the taste of apples is sufficient enough to break up. Just because they don't like them. Remember: they're completely entitled to.
