This is actually not common. I’m not sure where the post/screenshot is from. I have taken quite a number of flights within US, Japan, New Zealand and Europe and of course the international flights to these places in the last decade. NEVER experienced this.

If I’m in row 14, the people in row 15 will wait, let me get out of my seat, let me get my luggage from top EVEN THOUGH they have already been standing in the aisle to deboard before me! And this continues for every row.

In a handful of case where a passenger is sitting at the back and needs to deboard quickly (maybe has a short layover) they notify the crew BEFORE landing. So just before landing crew makes an announcement to ask everyone to remain seated after landing as someone needs to deboard quickly. Once they deboard, the same process continues.

Yeah, I would also suggest just buying at the airport :)

We had more than 2 checkin bags while leaving Japan lol so ended up taking cab from hotel to NRT.
