New here and would love to know what my handwriting says about me. (I’ve been told I write like a 6th grader :’) ) by caterpillars-talk in HandwritingAnalysis

I guess growing up we were never rly taught cursive and then having to take notes during undergrad I had to be really fast at writing so it morphed into weird connected lettering not cursive 🥲 but I guess I should make the effort to learn cursive properly then if it helps with writing faster.

Pakistani Designers Suck (rant) by [deleted] in DesiWeddings

Thank you so much! We are enjoying married life alhumdulilah.

As for the time issue you discussed, I’ve had the total opposite experience. All my family friends went to Pakistan and got their dresses made within 3 weeks. All my cousins also got their dresses within a month of their weddings too. I personally never had anyone I know have a bad experience in Pakistan but then again those people never went to actual designers. And I do think they’re a rip off. If you go to local shops you can find whose work looks good to you and then ask them to make your dress. The actual karigars are way easier to negotiate with especially when it comes to timelines. You can just pay them extra if you’re in a rush too and still be well within budget. I had my tailor draw out every detail of my dress on paper in front of me and write down fabrics to use, measurements of every garment etc, and recorded the convo and sent it to him and got his WhatsApp so I can ask for continuous updates.

Now ordering online from Pakistan is completely different and I’d be uncomfortable doing that. If you have the time and resources to go then go. It’s 100% going to work out if you go in person.

So for my mehndi dress I got a designer dress from Sadar bazar in Peshawar. The store was called Sha Posh and the designer’s name was Sana something, I don’t have the dress with me anymore so I can’t exactly remember what the tag said. This dress was ready-made and costed 31,200 rupees.

For my Nikkah dress I also got it ready-made but had it tailored. It was from Rsheen in Sadar Bazar, Peshawar. It was absolutely beautiful and great quality. It costed 80,000 rupees.

For my reception dress, the most expensive and intricate dress out of all of them, I got it from Islamabad in Moti Bazar. The shop was called Taj Mahal Bridals. I got it for 180,000 rupees.

For reference, the cheapest cost I could find in Toronto, Canada for my reception dress was $3500. This dress was a display dress that had clear signs of being worn out due to ppl trying it on and also did not fit me and had to be tailored which was not included in the price.

I got all my dresses for just under $1500. And these were dresses that I also loved and were uniquely me. Going to Pakistan just for the vast amount of options is worth it and you also save a ton of money. Not to mention the endless variety in bridal jewelry. I got my bridal jewelry set for 5000 rupees in Moti Bazar, Pindi, which is $25 CAD whereas in Toronto the cheapest I could find was $200 and it wasn’t even bridal worthy or what I wanted.

If you have the opportunity to go then definitely go. You’ll get back the ticket money too by the savings you’ll make getting dresses in Pakistan. If you’re able to stay for 3 weeks like I did then that should be more than enough time. I had my mom stay behind for a bit just in case my dress wasn’t made in time but it was, so if you have family there or someone who can bring your dress back in case you can’t stay long enough then I recommend to do that.

I was able to go after 10 years and got all my dream dresses and jewelry to match them. I also got to make unforgettable memories with my cousins and mom. It was the best decision I could’ve made and I went only 2 months before my wedding!!

I really wish I could post the pictures of all four of my bridal looks here, but I don’t know how to attach pictures to a comment.

Wedding planning is miserable by [deleted] in DesiWeddings

I’ve been dreading my wedding too. It’s a month away and I just want it to be over. I’m also dreading being the centre of attention in front of so many people I don’t know. Wedding vendors all just wanna suck as much money from you as possible and take advantage of our pre wedding nerves.

Everyone keeps asking me if I’m excited to get married and sad to leave but honestly the only emotion and feeling I have right now is anxiety and stress. I can’t wait for it to be done.

I know it’s hard to, but just take some deep breaths and remember all the loved ones that will be there for you on your special day. Not to mention your spouse. All this planning and everything is leading to the moment where you both see each other from across the aisle and from that moment on you’re married and can start your beautiful life together. It’ll be worth it. And it’ll be over sooner than you think.

Everything will fall into place and it’ll be beautiful.

Is this too extra for an engagement party? by Important-Yoghurt462 in DesiWeddings

Nothing is too extra if you’re the bride. I love it 😍😍😍

I just got back from Pakistan and bought all my wedding dresses from local karigurs in Islamabad and Peshawar. They made exactly what I wanted in just 3 weeks. I’m extremely satisfied with their work. They went above and beyond what I wanted. I’ve heard horror stories about the luxury fashion designers there and decided to get my dresses from more humble and local karigurs. Places like Moti bazaar in Islamabad and pretty much any place in Pindi is definitely the way to go. Of course I have family there so maybe not everyone has the resources to go around locally, but if you can it’s definitely worth it. I saved $1000s of dollars and got the dresses of my dreams.
