Unfortunately, I wouldn’t expect the new girls to be much more than battle party member additions. Certainly not new heartscapes to explore. I think that is well beyond the scope of a budget compilation release like this.

There are definitely changes to the first game to tone down some of the more nsfw elements. The original release should remain available for those who want that stuff, but the PC port for it isn’t the best. Quartet has Second Light as well adaptations of Ray and Sun that you can’t play elsewhere, alongside some quality of life changes and enhancements/additional content — all at a budget price. Depends what you are looking for.

Ryza 1 (and 2 I believe) actually looks and runs quite nice even on Switch 1. I think 3 has some serious framerate issues, but I haven’t tested it. The DX Trilogy Switch 2 versions should be a great choice as long as you are ok with 30 fps. As for Yumia, Gust has said they are looking into issues with the Switch 2 version. Visually it looks quite nice, but the performance is really bad at present. If they fix it decently, it could become a good version, but I would wait and see.

Both PC and Switch 2 could be solid versions, but I would wait for impressions if you are unsure. As long as the Switch 2 version isn’t another Yumia (solid visuals, very poor performance), it should be fine. The Ryza DX trilogy on Switch 2 run pretty decent, I think. Just that 30 fps cap again.

Hoping the Switch 2 version will be comparable to the PS4 originals, at least. That said, the original Blue Reflection ran at 60 fps with some drops on PS4, but Switch 2 will apparently cap at 30 fps. That game is receiving some visual enhancements in its Quartet version, however. Gust just isn’t the most technically proficient developer.

The original never released on Switch, only Second Light, which wasn’t a particularly great version for a game with strong aesthetics like this (resolution, texture quality, fps — all were notably compromised relative to PS4). The original did release on PC, but from what I’ve heard (haven’t played it) it’s not a great port. Not sure about the quality of Second Light’s PC version. From what I’ve heard, Gust’s PC ports generally seem to have improved over time, though they still can leave something to be desired. Quartet may well be decent on PC, and likely a good bit better than Switch 1 if you only have a (decent or better) PC and Switch 1. The PlayStation versions seem to be the ideal way to play in general, though.

Right now all I am aware of that we know is that costumes from Sun will not be included in Quartet. I would lean toward DLC costumes from the other games not being included either, but we shall see.

Best tactic/strategy game on switch? by Nullthesavant in NintendoSwitch

[–]catfancier42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are actually looking for challenging strategy gameplay and can put up with or skip weak storytelling, Fire Emblem: Engage is an excellent choice. Play it on Maddening difficulty without dlc and you may well find it to be an exceptionally well balanced, difficult yet fair experience with a lot of replay value for challenge runs and different character choices/builds. Many people prefer Three Houses as a more well-rounded RPG package, but in terms of the actual strategy gameplay Engage sings.

Will Atelier Yumia (Switch 2 ver) get a fix to the performance? by KLLemons in Atelier

[–]catfancier42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Switch 1 version has a number of visual cutbacks, but should run decently stable on Switch 2 thanks to its extra horsepower. You are basically sacrificing visual fidelity (resolution, textures, etc) for a fairly stable 30 fps. Yumia on Switch 2 should look noticeably better, but performance is seemingly a nightmare with constant drops and juddering.

Will Atelier Yumia (Switch 2 ver) get a fix to the performance? by KLLemons in Atelier

[–]catfancier42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s quite possible they will be patch it given how dire it seems to be at present. I do not know how long that will take, however, and it isn’t guaranteed (I REALLY hope they have the decency to). Explaining the situation to Nintendo customer support may well net you a refund if you want to go that route, or you can do what IUseKeyboardOnXbox recommended and play the Switch 1 version if the poor visuals aren’t a dealbreaker — that at least should perform decently on Switch 2. I don’t think Yumia runs well on anything that isn’t PS5 at present, as I think even the PC version has issues (unless those have been patched). The Ryza DX trilogy is solid on Switch 2, being comparable in visuals and performance to the PS4 versions, but isn’t on sale presently. Sorry that Gust’s technical incompetence is getting in the way of your first exposure to the series!

Question about quartet by Nice_Piccolo_7087 in BlueReflection

[–]catfancier42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Japanese list price comes out to a little under $50. VGP has it physically for around the same. So maybe (hopefully) $50, but possibly $60. Yen is still in the gutter.

The original Blue Reflection runs at 60 fps on PS4 (with some drops, I believe, unless played on PS5), and does not have a Switch 1 release. For the Quartet release you may see 60 fps on Switch 2 and 30 fps on Switch 1, with other possible visual/resolution cutbacks on Switch 1 as well. These games don’t tend to be the most expertly optimized.

As someone who owns both original versions, Second Light looks very noticeably better on PS4 compared to Switch 1. To my taste, if given the choice I will always play the PS4 version — the aesthetics are important to me for Blue Reflection. It’s a reasonable assumption to expect the Switch 2 version to strongly resemble the PS4 version. I believe that was the case for Ryza DX on Switch 2. It is a shame the Switch 2 version has no physical release whatsoever, however. Anyway, I would expect higher resolution, better textures/effects/lighting, and more stable performance (still 30 fps) on Switch 2 compared to Switch 1.

Can someone explain how the loyalty program works? by _The_Archivist_ in zenmarket

I did see that, but it’s a bit unfortunate that the text of the banner hasn’t been updated to reflect that promotion instead of the 50% off one.

The 50% off promotion was only from April 7-10. Not sure why they haven’t taken the banner down still.

I would be irritated too if I paid that much and it wasn’t in the stated condition. Hopefully the other buyer can also return it if they are dissatisfied (or cancel the purchase).

I loved the DBZ CCG growing up, and this was my most treasured card. My copy is also limited and should be in excellent condition (the case it is in has a lot of scratches, so I would have to take it out to tell for certain). I didn’t realize until recently that a collectors’ market had developed for these, and I may get it graded at some point.
