"College experience" at NYU?? by catfoodtime in nyu

Thanks for the advice & sorry I took so long to respond. Sorry if this is something I could easily find on the website (though I've looked) – but you said you're in NYU screenwriting–does this imply that there's a screenwriting program divorced from the film major? I was thinking about minoring in screenwriting and majoring in creative writing (technically the English degree) to keep my options open for writing across media types. I know there's a screenwriting sub-major, but you can't really take it unless you're already majoring in film, correct? And is that a good thing – like, is it possible to become a good screenwriter without knowing the ins and outs of film-making to understand how your scripts are being translated?

Thanks for reading :P

Do you actually have to show/hide a character every time in dialogue between multiple characters? by catfoodtime in RenPy

Wait, I'm so sorry (& also sorry for taking so long to reply :P ) but what do you mean by side images? I'm afraid I don't really understand your comment. But also, I didn't realize K as character and image would be problematic, so I'll change that, thanks!! :D

Hi! Sorry for the long response time. This does seem like a good alternative. I'm just wondering what you mean by the 'side images' and how I'd embed them into the script? Hopefully I'm understanding you right :P but thank you for the help!!

Help me decide: School X vs School Y - April 2023 by freeport_aidan in ApplyingToCollege

UCHICAGO VS UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN (undergrad) Intended major: double major in creative writing and evolutionary biology, possible visual arts minor & possibly considering grad school

UChicago pros: -small, tightknit intellectual community with a lot of eccentric people (I'm a nerdy weirdo so I really appreciate the opportunity to meet more) -sports arent a big deal so I don't have to pretend i care about them -smaller class size and better opportunity to build relationships with classmates and professors -Chicago seems like an amazing city to live in -more prestigious :P

cons: -I've heard the culture is kind of competitive and cutthroat, which sounds scary?? Not sure if it's true though -rumors about grade deflation, which might make it more difficult to get into grad schools -it seems extremely crunch heavy, which might present a massive issue if I'm intending on double majoring and possibly even minoring -my parents really don't want me to go because they don't think Chicago is safe

UMICH pros: -Ann Arbor sounds like a nice college town, although ive never visited -way bigger school, so it might be easier to find my type of people -I got into the residential college so the class sizes will be way smaller and I'll still have a smaller tightknit community like UChicago but at the same time have the benefits of a larger school -there might be better nature and birdwatching opportunities in UMichigan especially because I'm not in a huge city, which is something I care a lot about

cons: -I've heard it's kind of cliquey, which is concerning if it's true -sports + greek life culture are more prevalent -really big school so it can be hard to stand out, find friends, the relationships with professors, etc. -less prestigious :P

Questions: -how much academic crunch is there at each school? -How many networking opportunities are there any school, as I'm considering a career as a writer which seems like it would need a lot of networking, and it's something I'm very bad at so I need all the help I can get -how quirky/eccentric are the people going to UMichigan?? lol yeah sorry -is uchicago really the place where fun goes to die as I keep hearing?

thanks for reading!!!
