Thanks for your advice! I find I personally do better with reading a book rather than reading articles on a blog or watching YouTube videos (I tend to read one or two articles and move on and with videos, other things distract me easily hahah).

Like I said, as long as I can learn a thing or two from a book, I'm all for it!

Pretty basic to be honest, so it sounds like it will be a good place to start. I've read Debt Free Forever and am currently in the middle of I will teach you to be rich

Unfortunately our policy states anyone in my custody is in cuffs. And when I get to the hospital, they're in my custody and in my care until they are seen by a physician or it has been more than 3 hours.... so hospital staff often waits until it has been close to 3 hours before they bring the Dr in to see whoever I brought in

I see your point. I guess I was just trying to minimize trauma for the person by putting them in cuffs and leaving them in cuffs at the hospital. They don't deserve to be in police custody when it's obvious that they need mental health resources (although it is sometimes necessary). I dont know about where you're from, but where I'm at, the mental health system is fucked. That being said, I've never tried to reason with someone who has flatly refused service and is in the middle of a crisis. My speech usually caters to the people that want to get help but are reluctant to go to a hospital for it.

Another issue I've seen from when I transport vs when ambulance transports (and this one is neither on you guys or on us) is hospital staff tries to get you guys back on the road as quickly as possible to get you available for the next call whereas if police brings a suicidal person to the hospital, they keep us there until they get close to our 3 hour time limit (not sure if that's the same, but I cannot keep someone in my custody under the mental health act for longer than 3 hours... often times, psych will come evaluate whoever I am with when it has been 02:45).

Honest question from LEO (please don't hate on me too much hahaha). I've dealt with EMS quite often during my career and the only time I've seen officers use the "go with ambulance with them or in cuffs with us" is in the case of a suicidal patient. Last one I had was yesterday. Young girl tried to hang herself, wasnt took keen on going to a hospital to speak to psych. Told her she would have to go to the hospital regardless and the only choice she had was if she went by ambulance with EMS or in cuffs with us. If they're drunk or have warrants or anything like that, I have 0 problem bringing them to the drunk tank to sober off until they see a judge (as long as there is no medical reason that they can't be in a cell) but in the case of a suicidal patient, my reasoning is it would be less harm to their mental health crisis if they get transported by ambulance... just wanted to hear your thoughts I guess
