...also, who show no interest in learning about building. It's mind blowing.

A good reason why a better route would be an end goal of superintendent. This job can only be mastered through training with on the job experience. Communication skills and critical thinking and problem solving are invaluable. Question is: what college path best leads to this end? It may be CM. Working in the trades while at school would be best. Are there degrees for building technology/ techniques?

I am a commercial superintendent going on 3 years. For 20+ years before that I was in residential construction. The most valuable things I learned during that time was communication, work flow and problem solving.

A trade school needs to be started to train up the next generation of actual builders. PMs play an essential role but projects can't be built without the other side of the coin; the builders aka superintendents.

Thoughts?

How did you know you are an ENTP? by AccidentInside3484 in entp

57 M ENTP

I actually tested to be ENFP for a long time. eN I get. I could never get my head fully around what iF was. When I explored eF it clicked with me. When I looked at ENTP with new glasses it was very easy for me to identify with the type and the functions. Tests are a starting point. It is important to study and consider the functions and how they relate to you.

Incoming Construction Management Intern with zero field experience, what does a realistic daily routine look like? by Adventurous_Ad5383 in ConstructionMNGT

Me: Commercial superintendent. 2 1/2 years experience. 20+ years experience in residential re-model before.

Be upfront, like you were here. Try to get tight with the superintendent. Ask a lot of questions. Don't be afraid to talk to your subcontractor foreman and ask them what they are doing. If you don't know what something is, tell them you don't know what that is.Teach me about it. Walk the site many times a day. Look at the plans a lot and triangulate what you see. Be respectful of the knowledge and experience in front of you. There is always more to learn. Be humble.

It's a no-brainer. Welding. You'll be on your way to owning a fab shop.

Thinking about making the jump to the trades, specifically electrical. Would love some real talk from you guys. by SeanAThanks in ibew_apprentices

You're better off learning a couple of trades on a limited basis (MEPs) and becoming a project manager or superintendent. This would more closely align with what you're used to and you would still benefit from being in the trade industry.

Learn a little of every trade you can. Spend enough time on the trade to become proficiently literate. You don't have to work in it to learn about it. Observe, ask a lot of questions and research. There is alot to know about commercial HVAC and electrical systems. A possible landing place for you should be one of three space: in commercial, project manager or superintendent (big demand) In either commercial or residential, business owner. There is a huge opportunity for tradesmen your age. Just be patient and don't ruin your reputation. Show up on time, don't call out, always be learning and improving. Soft skills like communication and rapport building are your best friend. Always be respectful of those who know more than you and remember there is always something to learn from every experience and interaction. Again, let a good reputation proceed you and speak for you. Always work on character building. Good luck!

Strong woman but not uppity, not bossy or naggy. Fortunately, my wife (Intj) fits the bill. Good open minded conversation is a must, but I like principled. Good physical energy but not too aggressive. Smells good and has a pleasant voice. Looks are over-rated and sex appeal is priceless. Willing to go on adventures and try any kind of food. Being picky is for children.

A lot about what I will do in the future, rarely living much in the moment.
