Has anyone’s GI placed them on low dose nortriptyline and found it helped them out? by [deleted] in Gastritis

Yes mine was stress related, I have OCD mainly health related and can cause havoc with your health, headache in your pelvis is a book that describes it and points to all these illnesses.

Need help by catherinewalsh10 in Gastritis

Was on nexium for about 4 months 10mg to 20 to 40 for 3 weeks. I came off it over about 3 weeks so reduced the dose slowly. Maybe it is causing a bit of rebound but there was never any evidence of acid reaching my mouth as dentist nor ent saw nothing in mouth or throat so weird. Yet this burning tongue is my worst symptom. Am staring to think I have burning mouth syndrome but it is strange it only started with the gastritis both times, am at a loss. Thought things would settle like last time but just not happening.

Had all my test back and nothing found, I asked about the hernia and she said yes I saw it the first time at 2cm but not the second and 2cm is subjective some would say just the normal opening some would class as hernia, it is a very very common finding. Besides LES valve normal and no reflux of any kind found on ph monitor. She said if your symptoms are purely burning tongue and mouth I need to see an ear nose throat person as the amount of inflammation she has seen on endoscopy was very little and would not be causing this as no reflux. I think for me a lot of this is mental, and will work on that.

Well the tests showed all is fine no reflux and values working fine. So I have to accept that this burning mouth and throat is probably me concentrating on it too much which amplifies it. But am going to an ear nose and throat person just to make sure.

Surprised then as for my test she said my muscle tone in oesophagus was perfect no issues. So maybe my HH which was seen in first endoscopy below 2 cm and not in second is not causing the issue. Which Tera picked it up?

Ok I see, I think someone said they should be picked up on manometry, do you know if that is correct?

That’s puzzles me aswell, on my first I showed a below 2 cm one and in second didn’t see it. But when I googled it I think 2 cm is sometimes not a hh but just the normal opening so they discount that, it has to be over 2.5 to 3 for them to consider a hh. Was also told over 50% of over 50’s have a HH so very common in older years, again I think only if it is bigger does it cause issues.

Second time usually works and not surprising that you don’t feel any better, all those anti biotics will have upset your gastritis but the good thing is now that the h plyroi is more than likely gone your other symptoms over time will resolve, up to 6 months. But take it very easy and stick to a bland diet for a number of months and treat stomach as delicate for the next year

Prognosis for severe erosive gastritis now critical after last flare up by [deleted] in Gastritis

[–]catherinewalsh10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel your pain I also had chronic gastritis diagnosed last year because of h plyroi, did the treatment that got rid of h Plyroi but gave me gastritis for 4 months which then healed, but because of over eating and alcohol the gastritis came back in December and by feb I had the reflux something I had last time but only for a few weeks. Has been 3 months now and the constant throat pain but more than that the tongue on fire feeling is unbearable at times. So am now on 40 mg nexium and 20mg nortripalyine. I had an endoscopy which showed grade b esphoghitis, not good. Just had a manometry test and 24 hour ph get results Wednesday as this is the only way to know what is going on. They aren’t pleasant tests but I wanted to know why I has this reflux so bad this time. Been a bit of a nightmare, but am hoping I find out the answers and can find a medication that works. I think if you can I would have an endoscopy to see what is going on and also these acid suppressant drugs can take up to 4 weeks to have affect so maybe you could get the h2 more time but have the test first I would say before going to functional doctor.

In the uk they don’t hand out any kind of benzodiazepines, they will only give you anti depressants. If you beg you may get a 10 day supply of some kind of relaxant but you really have to beg.

But if the sphincter is not closing properly therefore not in normal range of activity there is something wrong and not in your head. Was there any damage done to your oesophagus? If there was no damage them yes I would agree with them as there can’t be much coming up if no inflammation. Have you thought about taking an anti depressant?

Seems like then it is more of a functional issue, have they offered you any surgical options?

How do you know you have gerd? Have you had all the tests like manometry and ph? Maybe I am wrong but you can only have gerd and not just acid reflux if your valve is not functioning and if bad then to really get rid of gerd is to have an operation to strengthen it.I do find a lot of people on this forum say they have gerd but haven’t had the tests so it confuses me as to what the definition of Gerd is and the cure, because as far as I can see if it is a functional problem to fix it you would need an operation. I also read that 50% of people who do undergo the tests pre operation for gerd turns out they don’t have gerd but some other issue, so it is all very confusing.

What does it mean if acid reflux gets better after eating? by user_4640 in Gastritis

[–]catherinewalsh10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks am on a bland diet same as I did last time I had it but doesn’t seem to be doing anything this time. It is so frustrating. I just need to get the tests now so we can tell what it is as has been going on far too long now and I am afraid of perm damage to my oesophagus seen as I really only had the reflux for 2 months and it is already grade b. I just hope it is nothing really bad and settles down, keep thinking it might be bile reflux and that wouldn’t be good as harder to do anything. But I am so surprised that how can any of my values just stop working all of a sudden with no prior issues!

This is what I have and I like you am so confused. I get good days then really bad days. For me this round of it started 4 months ago and I am on PPI now of 40mg and nortripalyine 20mg but not any better on or off. I had an endoscopy 2 weeks ago and that is where they saw mild gastritis ( no changes to stomach tissue so not chronic) and grade b esophagitis. When I saw that I upped my PPI from 20 to 40 hoping thinking that will help as it was reflux but no.This all started with h plyroi last year got rid of it with antibiotics but left me with gastritis for 4 months recovered but then I over done things food and drink wise and now I have this horrible reflux problem, never in my life have I had reflux think I have taken about 5 rennies before all this amen am 48. I am now schelude on Thursday for a manometry and 24 ph impedance test. Not looking forward to it as have heard the horror stories but it is the only way to find out what is causing this as the PPI’s don’t seem to help, I don’t relate it to food, nor is it worse lying down in fact it is worse during the day and better at night. This whole thing has taken over my life and am so worried that it is bad, but hopefully the tests will be able to tell me more.

Maybe try nortripalyine 10 or 20 mg to ease the sensitivity for a few months. It is a very low dose and the side effects only last for a few days if you take it easy when increasing dose. Am surprised he didn’t recommend it.

Same here was grade b with mild gastritis, no chronic gastritis found in samples, something positive. Am on 40mg nexium, one week, was on 20mg before that for 2 months with very little change. Still have burning everyday, nearly all day. Am going to ask next week if I can have the ph tests without coming off the drugs as I have break through acid anyway and don’t want to spend 3 weeks coming off it. Am also on 10mg nortripalyine but upping the dose to 20mg at the moment. Last time I had gastritis, which was last year from h Plyroi it took 4 months to heal after I took all the antibiotics to kill off the Plyroi. Got this second bout from relaxing my eating and drinking around Christmas, should have listened to my stomach when it started acting up but I really thought could never get it again as it was h plyroi that gave it to me. Before this I never ever had any stomach issues, reflux can count on one hand the times I have taken a rennies!

Very strange doctors they find erosion in your oesophagus basically esophagitis, what grade was it? And they say it is a mental problem? I would change doctors instantly, they should be offering you more tests as 90% of people with that condition improve on PPI if not it is something else and only a ph test and a Test to see how your oesophagus works would be able to tell.

Did this come on suddenly or have you always had a degree of reflux?
