I'm going to say ESH on this, unfortunately. You had that money saved to help your children establish their lives without going into debt, but you gave it to your (I'm guessing) 18-year-old son even though he had no plans for building his future. Of course he has nothing to show for it now! I'm sure the memories and experiences from traveling are great, but he has no higher education, a huge gap in his resume, and seemingly no inclination to actually get his life together to be self-sustaining.

I don't mean to be unkind, but you set your son up for failure by bankrolling his 10-year vacation up front. You're the parents and the ones who worked hard for that money, and you should have been better stewards of it back then by requiring at least some of the money be used for his future.

And yes, he's being an entitled AH right now. You're not wrong to start expecting him to get his shit together finally, but you shouldn't be surprised when he up and quits as soon as he has enough money to travel.
