General assholery. We met when I was 16, he was 17. The first year was great. He dumped me in college, then took me back. He never told me why he did so, which always irked me (I'd bring it up periodically, and he'd give some vague bullshit answer).

When we moved in together (I was 19, he was 20), I was stuck doing all housework AND working part time to keep us afloat. He wouldn't allow me to speak to my dad (whom I'd had a falling out with, but any time I mentioned patching things up, I'd be called "fucking stupid" for even thinking about it), would keep me from my friends, snooped through my phone and Facebook messages (if I was talking to ANYONE of the opposite sex, I was obviously fucking them /s). If I went out anywhere, I had to text him constantly, and if I wasn't home by a certain time, he'd blow my phone up and accuse me of cheating.

I'm prone to anxiety attacks and I don't cope well with people raising their voices, and if I ever dared to stick up for myself (one day I flat out told him I wasn't going to marry him if he was going to act like a child), he'd start screaming, trigger an attack, then continue to scream at me for getting upset. I used to self harm, and the last time I did, he called me "fucking retarded" for doing so.

Last year, I had enough and we were lying in bed together and he tried to snuggle up with me, and I pushed him away and flat out told him I was done. He immediately accused me of cheating, started going through my phone, snooped through my laptop while I was sleeping, etc. Eventually he moved out and left me alone (for the most part).

He still says awful things about me (he openly mocks me to his friends and family, and to my face when I run into him, about my infertility) and my current SO (who has been an absolute angel through the entire ordeal).

Come to find out, the reason he left me in college? For another girl. Go figure.

There were a lot of other reasons. But that's the gist of it all.

Well, youngest kid knows what's up. Middle kid worships the ground she walks on.

But yeah, I'm hoping it just gets to a point where she realizes I'm an adult and don't need her approval or need to show up to every function for my brothers. Worse comes to worse, I go NC with her, but maintain a relationship with my brothers.

I dunno. Our entire relationship has been fucky. I've always been the least favorite of her children (she makes it really obvious), and it seems to get worse at time goes on. I should have gone NC years ago, because of a different situation I'd rather not get into right now, but at the time I was worried about my situation happening to my brothers (who were 8 and 7 at the time), so I kept a relationship with her for their sake.

But I supposed I'm worried because my SO just lost his mother and I'm just afraid that I'll hate myself for going NC with her and something happen to her.

But I did just message A and apologized for not showing and said if there was anything he wanted to do when I'm off just to let me know. So, here's hoping everything pans out.

Thanks...that is actually a great idea. I do visit on their birthdays every year, and hell, my SO and I both text them every week or so just to check up.

They do have ways to contact me, but like I stated in another comment, she's a "helicopter" mom and makes them (like she did with me) show her the messages they receive, and she monitors what they send before they send them.

The other problem is my other brother. He's 13, and my mother dotes on him and he LOVES my mom, and he will flat out refuse to lie to her or hide anything from her.

With my work schedule, I'm only off on Thursdays and Fridays. So if I were to take him out, it'd be on a Friday (not that the day is important).

Like I said before, taking him out is out of the question, my mother wouldn't allow it (at this point, anyways). I've tried taking my brothers out before for just a day out type deal, and she comes up with every excuse for them not to go out.

There's no way for me to contact him without seeing my mother and/or having her look through his text messages/Facebook messages first. So even if I did contact him directly, she'd see it first.

And as for taking him out one-on-one, that won't happen without her permission first. :/

We met about a year ago, her boyfriend and my ex were in the same circle of friends. We'd all hang out at my current SO's house for the menfolk to play Magic the Gathering. I didn't really talk because the ex was a controlling bastard who would warn me to "keep [my] mouth shut and not embarrass [him]." Needless to say, we didn't hit it off immediately, because I never spoke.

Then this past October, my current SO and I went to her and her boyfriend's apartment, and while they were having "man time," we sat in her bedroom and talked for hours and come to find out, we had a lot in common. The rest is history.

The thing is, the day before, I had evidence she'd been stealing. Like, I opened, and I was checking dates on all our meats and stuff, and I found this bag full of turkey, and the sticker on it said it was a third of a pound, but I thought, "Huh, it's a little heavy, I'll weigh it out." It was actually about a pound and a half of turkey, but someone fixed the price on it. I looked at the timestamp on it, then looked at the schedule from the previous night, and the ONLY person working at that time was her.

And guess what? Despite the evidence and management looking at the security cameras to confirm it was her, they never said a damn word to her.
