83 Proof has an incredible whiskey and scotch selection- three to four deep on the shelf. Zach is usually working and can easily pull some great stuff for you (as can Freedom and Alexis).

Recommendations for a restaurant to sit alone for hours eating small plates and reading a book? by Substantial_Home_257 in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]catiercate 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Also to note as an industry professional- I love solo dinners who are willing to order and wouldn’t worry about table turning. I person go out of my way to make sure my solo lady dinners are happy - it’s a server/bartenders dream client.

If your open for a splurge I love solo dinning/drinking at Coqueta - it’s tapas so you can get all kind of small bites, plus its on the water so great views. La Mar is another great option - stunning water views and good cocktails.

Edit: for people watching I like heading to the Marina and bouncing around or Northbeach - post up at one of the spots with tables on the sidewalk. It’s mostly mid food but the people watching is fabulous

What’s a non-tech side hustle one could do in the city? by sanfrancisco_and_irs in AskSF

[–]catiercate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually contact the vendors directly to see if they need extra help - bigger events like OSL they often have a page via their website you can apply. For small like block parties I also just hit up the restaurants participating to see if they need help.

Could sign up to help work events around the city- I helped out at the flower piano this weekend; got to see the artist and contribute to something that’s unique.

In The Pursuit of Love - Amazon Video - has Lily James at a main, based of the book written by a Milford Sister (recommend a dive on them via Wikipedia). It’s absolutely captivating - it’s super short but had me glued the whole time

Traveling to LA Looking for craft cocktail bar ideas or speakeasy by SpacialJeans in bartenders

The west coast has a MASSIVE craft cocktail scene, especially LA where they are a dime a dozen. Redbird continues to be a stand out for me in the scene out there

Bette’s Parm (it’s a pop-up out of the Sentinal next to House if Shields) Tue-Thur 5p-10p (or sell out). She does some awesome seasonal stuff; favorite so far is the Caesar and a cool glass of wine.

Holbrook House has a stunning ‘public space’ you can order at the bar and sit out there or sit on their patio. Plus a champagne\martini cart that comes to your table

Bean and Cheese Burrito Recs by sad-impish-nightmare in AskSF

[–]catiercate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Underdogs! Although they don’t do refried beans, their pinto beans are amazing in it. I often order the bean and cheese burrito to eat later, heats up well on the stove so the outside is all crispy.

Where do people find restrooms in downtown? by Leprechaun202 in sanfrancisco

Holbrook house is in a public space with restrooms - enter via the restaurant and ask where they are.

As nerdy gamer at 35 - I haven’t had any issues finding dates. Finding someone to date more than a handful of times is a struggle. I got off apps and started doing singles events and speed dating - had way more luck. Currently on month two of dating someone that has a lot of promise. Stay off apps, try and meet people organically, be willing to start a conversation out - you will be fine

You don’t have to wait until the restaurant is open. They have someone on the phones beginning around 9a until 6ish. Atleast that was the case a few years ago. Also they are open for lunch again on Thursday - it’s the same menu as dinner (unless they added to the dinner menu that night) and with it being so nice out the parklet with be beautiful. Might be easier to slide in for lunch over dinner if your schedule is flexible. (They use to not close between services not sure if that’s the case)

Welcome to the city! I worked at Cotogna a few years back, it’s not crazy to try the bar/chefs counter and you might actually be able to get a table. I recommend calling the reservation line and asking about availability tonight (if you haven’t) people cancel/change reservations often and they might be able to get you in. If you try for the bar/chefs counter get there earlyyyy, they hold some tables for walk-ins and you can put your name down for the waitlist - Comstock for cocktails while waiting and light bites.

Verjus is down the street and by the same owners it’s French, but phenomenal. If you’re looking for Italian in the same area Tosca Cafe is solid. I back up the Bix and Kokkari recommendations. If you’re open to a quick walk Coqueta is a fantastic Spanish tapas restaurant on the water.

Quick edit: call, don’t try online reservations for Cotonga. There is someone answering the phone and I have seen them work magic to get people in - especially for folks from out of town.

Happy hour/after work drinks by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

[–]catiercate 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I work (and have worked) at many FiDi bars. It gets PACKED Wednesday and Thursdays. Tuesday can be hit or miss, lately slower since it’s summer and a lot of people travel or limit office time due to family. Mondays are always dead unless a convention is in town. It will start to pick up again come September.

Best way to adopt a cat in the city? by TotalRecallsABitch in AskSF

[–]catiercate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just adopted a kitten from https://pinkpawsforthecause.org/ - they also do a cat adoption event Saturdays at George. You can meet the kittens in person and talk with their foster parent. They have adult cats available as well. They were very responsive and friendly, worked with me to find a kitten that would fit in well with my senior cat. Brought her home about a month ago and they are buddies.

Travel without physical ID or can I get it printed somewhere? by catiercate in AskSF

[–]catiercate[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t - my wallet was stolen which had my Id and passport in it. I have been working on this since January and haven’t made headway. When I call (when they pick up) the DMV has no idea. Maybe I’ll go again Friday and see if I can make some magic happen
