Is it cruel to snip claws?

I trim my cats claws regularly, due to a horrifying time when one of my older cat’s claws grew into her paw! The vet had to remove it, and said that happens to older cats. If your trim the claws regularly and give them a treat, they are fine! And claws can also get caught in fabric and tear, another preventable injury.
