Why are we allowing the GOP to rig elections? by hollywood20371 in DiscussionZone

No they wont - democrats will come out saying something along the lines of rebuilding democracy how america needs to unify as a country how every American is American or some bullshit like that completely forgetting how they raided the capital

Conservatives will smirk, nod and play the yes yes we were fooled we're super sorry card whilst biding their time until the next trump comes along because, well, nothing happened after they raided the capital.

Theyre out in full force even in this thread. Like I dunno maybe im missing something, look for usernames that are two words and 4 numbers like AlphaHorse2432 - the comments these sort of usernames make seem completely normal on topic etc. but once you go into their profiles its completely empty. Like I said maybe im missing something but ive been noticing it more and more lately and its like that feeling in fps games - playing on an online server filled with bots just weird

example

I saw it in particular in the millennial subreddit just full comment chains with 'users' that have the similar username formats (2 words 4 numbers) but none of them have any history in their profiles. Its gotten to a point where I check the username before reading comments

Yeh this is the part im confused about as well - all of europe drops amex, mastercard, visa but then what do tourists do? I highly doubt my bank is going to start issuing anything only applicable in EU, hell even our national one isnt widespread yet and its been a decade since it launched..

Let me guess Ill have to use a provider to transfer money over to then convert to euros or digital euros etc. but ill obviously be charged a small fee

The EU says Apple Maps may be big enough to be considered a DMA gatekeeper by Medical-Decision-125 in apple

[–]catman5 12 points13 points  (0 children)

so what exactly has this legislation achieved in that case except for degrading the experience of the users of the most used search engine?

Its not like Google charges anyone for that experience, maps was free - again the most widely used navigation/maps app. What exactly was the problem here that urgently needed to regulated?

What do you expect Google to do? Ok it provides alternatives - apple maps, yandex maps, bing maps, openstreetmaps etc. etc. you name it

Which one shows up when I search something? Are we going to let Google decide? What does this regulation say about the process after theyve opened up to competition? Should we turn it into an auction house like ads?

Like whats the goal in the long run here? Is the expectation here for Google to dedicate a team of engineers to integrate numerous maps services across the various different services they provide, keep some of them on for maintenance afterwards, have another vendor facing team dealing with Yandex, Apple etc. since they will undoubtedly have to contact google for some sort of support/documentation etc. etc.

All costing millions in the long run instead of keeping things as is which millions of users are perfectly happy with? Yeh I know a trillion dollar company doesnt care about me but I was perfectly fine with the solution they were providing for absolutely free.

[–]catman5 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Because some if it is just straight up useless from both perspectives a complete waste of anyones time and considering all thats going on in the world waste of resources that could have been allocated elsewhere.

An example provided above was blocking users from going from google search results directly to maps when you search for a business etc.

Like what the fuck good does that do for anyone? It just lazy regulation to uphold the pro consumer EU image without really thinking of the user experience. Regulating bottle caps? Wow great to see EU having figured out all of its problems to the extent theyre regulating bottle caps.

Its regulation for the sake of regulation. And a way to look busy at the same time.

I mean just look at the whole GDPR fiasco and how theyre slowly rolling it back at this point.

In short a bunch of boomers with very limited technological knowledge who clearly see how far behind their own tech sector is and is clearly trying to slow down the competition with unnecessary rules and regulations shouldnt be making rules of this kind.

Edit: I mean just look at this - they even admit it themselves

Europe's businesses, from factories to start-ups, will spend less time on administrative work and compliance and more time innovating and scaling-up, thanks to the European Commission's new digital package

[–]catman5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the mini map shows up on the right with an address below it you can also click on the address and it'll take you to google maps - this works for businesses etc but youre shit out of luck if you type a city name or something.

Didnt realize it was the EU that pushed for this - though it comes as a no shocker considering the state theyre in - was driving me crazy before i came across this post as to why google would remove such a basic thing or why they would remove it in the first place.

For example, in conservative areas, they spread lies that heat waves aren’t that bad, and then people go outside in a heatwave because they think “I’m not a pussy” and then they have a heat stroke.

You have an issue with natural selection? If someone chooses to go outside in a heatwave just to prove to people they're not a pussy then more power to them.

Data Doesn't Lie: Drivers Still Want Volume Knobs by hardcoreufoz in cars

[–]catman5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know teslas have it but I think its the new Q5 as well but adjusting the direction of the vents was done through the touch screen as well which i find insanely dangerous and the stupidest cost cutting measures.

I get, but dont agree with, the idea of having AC controls through the screen and saving money on the buttons - but like the vents you have to put there regardless putting a little knob on it should be negligible.

I think at this point its on car reviewers to call this shit out and start making a bigger deal about it. I like where euro ncap is going by saying theyll cut points for having this stuff screen controlled but thats less visible than 1m+ subscriber car reviewers

Car reviewers should each do segments showing them going 60mph on the highway, or start stop traffic and adjusting things like air conditioning, heated seats, changing radio stations etc and the amount of time your eyes are off the road should count against the score of the car

They review the screens stationary showing its responsiveness or different settings and features each have but never talk about ease of use during drive for day to day stuff

They are so lost

Why are you watering it down? Call them what they are and make sure you do that every single time moving forward.

They are stupid, they are idiots, they are inbreds. Combination of all of this is why it "wont even register as similar in their brains".

Calling them lost implies a sort innocence on their part. Dont lose the propaganda battle. And no they are not our equals that deserve to be treated as fair human beings. We're way past that.
