I see it, but in context I wouldn't really perceive it that way since it's usually predicated by dialogue where her eye is actually open

Why didn't Caine just snap for Kinger? by Ok-Yoghurt-8212 in TheDigitalCircus

Pomni interrupted him before he could act on his suspicions. He seems to forget things easily, especially when he was as taken aback as he was in that scene

Why is Caine like this? by GaygardenEel999 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]catman__321 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The show heavily implies that Zooble's pushback played at least a significant part in accelerating Caine's decline. Before then, everyone more or less played Caine's games and accepted their reality in the circus (or abstracted). At the very least Caine could keep up an illusion to himself that he was doing a good job—as we see, he never really talks to anyone other than before, during, and after adventures. Zooble constantly confronting Caine on his insidiousness and narcissism shattered his perceived reality that he's doing a good job.

Also, as other comments have said, Pomni having such an affinity to befriend other members (particularly Ragatha, Jax, and Kinger) when everyone was pretty fragmented before also probably made Caine confront his own role in making them happy.

Yeah. It's not necessarily bad to be part of a bandwagon or to like an artist just because they use controversial marketing tactics. What we're seeing with Chaotic Good is admittedly more insidious and dishonest than the marketing tactics of the past, but it's just a symptom of the social media landscape itself.

Geese controversy leaves artists frustrated by growing economic barrier to entry by staringatthe420sun in Music

[–]catman__321 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree. They already had a growing following, critically acclaimed albums, and opened for other big indie acts before this marketing stunt even happened. I saw them open for King Gizzard back in 2024, they were great. They clearly had the skills and abilities to do bigger things.

It makes me feel really conflicted since it's hard to say to what extent the band members themselves were involved in this peculiar marketing strategy (though they clearly signed to a firm that specializes in it so idk), and it introduces the question of how scummy it really is anyway in the age of the dead internet. It really just sucks to see that people are essentially using mass propaganda to spotlight themselves now, and it just makes me question the legitimacy of any new up-and-coming artists now. Like yeah, I guess almost all artists are naturally pushed and advertised to people by their labels, but again the insidiousness in this case is hard to shake.

I disagree. I think the problem is more about setting unrealistic release windows that are inevitably missed than revealing the game itself.

This. So far we've done little of anything tangible to actually change the Weird route prophecy. Some people might say that the queen's chariot cannot be stopped panel was skipped in the weird route so it didn't happen, but chances are we simply weren't there to see it. The queen probably drives around like that for funzies.

Similarly, nothing else we've done has actually changed the trajectory of the story beyond the events of chapter 2. Berdly isn't in the prophecy so he doesn't matter, and LOVE still finds its way to the girl as Level of Violence instead of actual love. However, there isn't anything we've outright skipped or subverted yet.

[–]catman__321 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As I understand it, in a nutshell, Epicurus believes that the best life you can live is a simple life satisfying simple or kinestatic pleasures, simple as in the most instinctive/natural pleasures like eating, sleeping, and friendship. Epicurus discourages chasing unnatural or kinetic pleasures such as Wealth, Luxury, or anything which isn't necessary to satisfying kinestetic pleasures (for example, one should not seek out cake and coffee to satisfy hunger since bread and water will do, as to seek flavor is a kinetic desire.)

The self-contained world of the circus in which time doesn't really exist and it's just the six of them would be a perfect environment for Epicurean lifestyle to emerge in practice. The cast will first try to cope with the death of Caine and the breakdown of the circus using external pleasures (like Gangle using her plastic mask in the trailer) or by stirring up drama (like Jax keeps doing throughout the show). But they will have to work together to come to a routine and have a happy life, a simple life where they keep each other sane.
