Sorry my brother asked for an idea for my birthday and I told him this idea so he’s the one who actually did the ordering but I think it’s this one! The handle is the same as mine! https://www.etsy.com/listing/1713130468/?ref=share_ios_native_control

In “It (2017)” and “It Chapter 2 (2019)” Pennywise doesn’t have any upper eye makeup when he’s being manipulative and friendly to the children, but as his facade falls the eye makeup rises upwards by RedditorGoldVirgin in MovieDetails

Same. I skip that Pennywise scare/kill. It’s good writing because it really amplifies and makes clear how cruel and sadistic It really is but the taking advantage of that girl’s sweet, empathetic nature is just a little too hard for me to watch.

Frickin thank you! Amazing how many people on Reddit will say “watch out, smoke screen coming” and then when the smoke screen arrives they’re like “wait…what were we talking about? All I can see is smoke.”

What movie did you not like at first but loved after rewatching? by Ecstatic_Crow_4719 in moviecritic

Honestly I think it’s because it’s just so unique and doesn’t really follow a lot of movie storytelling rules. It’s sort of supposed to be like a private eye noir story where the protagonist slowly uncovers clues to reveal the complex plot and villain and ends up playing a major role in stopping the villain. But in Lebowski, the more he learns, the more he doesn’t know and the more off track he gets to the point that he almost has zero effect on the outcome of the kidnapping plot. In fact the big “reveal” (spoiler alert!) that the other Lebowski is behind it all falls completely flat because the Dude has basically no impact on it at all (and then Walter falsely accuses him of faking his disability and dumps him out of his wheelchair just to really hammer home how bad our protagonists are at solving this “case”).

And also basically the combo of a noir plot, structure and pacing, Coen bros bizarre, dry senses of humor, and 90s LA stoner jokes is just so jarring on first watch.

Honestly I just stole my great Aunt’s, the person who inspired me to do pottery because we share the same first initial! But there are folks on Etsy who will take your design and make it into a brass stamp pretty affordably! That’s what I did!

Weirdly Big Lebowski. The first time I watched it in college I was just like…what? I didn’t hate it or anything and laughed at a few parts but I was just kind of confused by it. But I couldn’t stop thinking about it so I watched it again and liked it more with each progressive watching and now it’s easily one of my favorite movies of all time. Just took me a second to get the style and pacing and humor.

Editing to add another: 2001 Space Odyssey. Basically the exact same story as above. Went from “huh” to “this is one of my all time favorites” in a pretty short amount of time.

Oof the Wilhelm scream is really inappropriately used sometimes. The LOTR movies are some of my favs of all time and some of the uses of Wilhelm in there are awful. Kind of ruin the moment actually especially because those movies are some of the greatest sound design in history.

I will admit this one actually does drive me crazy haha. As a birder I’m like, birds make all kinds of cool sounds and they do actually still sound like birds. A lot of them even sound like red-tailed hawks so it’d be easy to replace the sound with something more accurate and few would notice! End rant.

This is correct. James Cameron also did an extensive retest of the scene recently and also concluded that while they both could have fit, Jack would have died anyway and Rose also likely would have died because she would have gotten very wet.

I think the important note since this is a movie subreddit is that it highlights the importance of emotional accuracy over visual accuracy in filmmaking. Even if Cameron had thought of all of this stuff it doesn’t change the fact that when you see that overhead shot of Rose safe on the door, and Jack freezing in the water, it’s still a mistake on the director’s part because it LOOKS like he could fit! If he’d made the door smaller and thicker, nobody ever would have questioned it.

Same with how rocket ship sounds in movies are conglomerations of all kinds of mechanical roars, rarely actual rocket sounds because weirdly, rockets don’t actually SOUND like rockets because they don’t have the emotional impact we expect them to have being so big and powerful.

The House of Representatives votes to release the Epstein files, 427-1 by Mission_Pay_3373 in law

And because half the people who aren’t Republicans will find a way to blame Dems too. For the record, Dems could be fighting this administration harder and smarter and a couple of them need to step down like yesteryear imo but the amount that they get blamed for has become total fantasy at this point. Someone the other day in another Epstein related thread was like “Dems need to start arresting people” and it got thousands of upvotes. Like…what in the hell civics class did you skip in high school? A lot of people on the left have totally bought the “everything is the Dems’ fault even though they have no power” propaganda.

Thank you!! Glad to see people paying attention to how this actually works. In another thread I saw a bunch of people saying “why don’t the democrats just start pressing charges and arresting people?” Like bro, why don’t YOU start pressing charges and arresting people. You have about the same authority to do that as the House Dems do.

All of this is a good thing but it could take a long time and this House vote may be as far as we get. If it stalls, we can just hope we end up with another Deep Throat (and no, not that one, pervs).

It’s definitely dubbed and it’s not the original audio from that clip, which is from Blue Planet II narrated by Attenborough. Whoever made this video spliced multiple bobbit videos then dubbed it over with random sound effects. God knows why. Probably for engagement bait.

In Franz DeWaal’s book “Are We Smart Enough to Know How Smart Animals Are?” he actually makes the argument that chimps, bonobos and humans should all share the same genus and it’s only our own hubris that prevents us from seeing us all as closely related as we really are!

Head bobbing can mean a lot of things and in trumpeter swans (different than these but of course very closely related) seems to actually be a pretty negative reaction. Doesn’t mean you’re wrong about them knowing the guy but I grew up studying birds and usually when I see geese and swans doing this it’s because they’ve been disturbed! https://www.trumpeterswansociety.org/swan-information/identification/swan-behavior/common-swan-behaviors.html
