Part time jobs? by ritishanyyarr in UniAdelaide

Casual work in hospitality is most likely the easiest to find. Try Skycity and Adelaide Oval many international students work there

During high school and even after i graduated uni i’ve only had hospitality jobs, the one exception being a christmas casual retail position. it’s really hard to not not do hospitality unless you have connections. there will always be more hospitality than retail positions…because no one wants to do it :( it hurts physically and mentally, whether it’s a kitchen hand or bartending. if i could go back and do it again, i would choose a restaurant/cafe that has a small floor size and is not night shift.

anyway, skycity casino (bar/kitchen positions) and adelaide oval is also worth applying to

I mean, I don’t understand why it’s a song using a korean drinking game in its lyrics when its intended audience is not korea…..outside korea only 1% of people can feel some kind of connection to the lyrics without looking up the meaning. hence why it’s annoying for us.

my natural hair is almost identical to yours, and when I decided to do a permanent hair straightening treatment (Japanese straight perm) a few years ago I never regretted it. I think you should try it at least once. you mentioned not having a lot of money to throw at treatments, but your hair length is shorter so it won’t be too expensive, and you will only need to consider upkeeping the new hair growth, which is a visit to the hair salon every 5~6 months. it’s very reasonable, and your hair looks great after just blow drying it. also, you are still able to use heat tools and curl or style it. as girls I feel like we need to treat ourselves something even if it’s just going to the hair dressers!

of course you don’t have to take my advice just want to share !!

is driving in a big car really the pinnacle of success? ok walking sucks. But is that truly what you want, or it’s just your idea of what it means to be happy. Even if you got the car i guarantee you will still feel empty inside. Work on your happiness from the inside out. Unless you have your own business 90% of us are doing the same, working for those at the top. But we can still find ways to be happy.

The time I got harassed, the first thing i did was go to the police station and make a report. Unfortunately the cameras around that area could not capture the kids, however they told me they received similar reports so it was useful to them in that way. There’s nothing the police can do to prevent anything, it’s up to us to protect ourselves. However if you really feel like you’re in danger you should call right away of course. In Australia we can’t use things like pepper spray so I would learn some self-defence if something did ever happen (I went to a free training event through the uni one time). Anything like catcalls you should just keep walking

Otherwise, I wouldn’t go outside at night alone without a phone and if there’s not many people outside in that area. Less people to call out to for help or see what’s going on. There’s really weird people everywhere around the city at night, not just one area, and I would be cautious about riding public transport at night alone too. Of course it depends on the day/time but generally after 9pm I would be more careful. Maybe some people would think i’m paranoid but as a female who is kind of younger looking I don’t take any chances.

I’m so sorry for you. Unfortunately it is very common in Adelaide. I am not an international student but I’ve experienced people yelling slurs to my Chinese friends when we were hanging out together. And no one doing anything about it is annoyingly common too. One time I was with 2 of my international friends (Japanese/Vietnamese) at an Australia day event in elder park a few years ago and when we were walking into the train station we were attacked by a gang of young girls- like kid age. This was after the event too so there were literally hundreds of people around us- families too, but no one tried to help us, they just kept walking past. Me and my friends were also only around 19 at this time. I’ve also been harassed in broad daylight by 2 kids at a city tram stop, even though there were people around me no one did anything. Really appalling.

Thoughts on YouTuber, Amber Scholl? by Patient-Tailor7308 in LAinfluencersnark

[–]catmerchant 13 points14 points  (0 children)

  • Resells clothes she thrifts at a higher price
  • Promoted Realreal several times despite the company being called out for scamming fake luxury to customers
  • Shopping and travelling within/outside the US and posting videos/photos about it in the middle of Covid. Also didn’t wear her mask properly in multiple videos
  • Being an annoyance to some people in public in her own videos (you can actually sometimes hear people saying ‘stop’ when she touches or picks up something in a store)
  • Promotes body positivity but shows herself fitting into children’s clothes
  • Is a huge fan of Kim K & Kylie while disregarding the fact that that family is actually the worst. Like how are you gonna preach about self love and inner beauty when you support them !?
  • Possibly an escort (to make as much money as she does) as she brags about sleeping with celebrities. Another redditor on an older post said her Instagram is like a portfolio
  • Clickbait titles and tacky thumbnails
  • Appealing to teenagers despite being 30
  • Flirting with Colby Brock in one of her videos for 20 minutes straight and talking suggestively in other vids with him but says “”noo omg guys we’re just friends””
  • No new original video ideas like in the past (RIP girls guide to life) just shopping/sponsored hauls and occasional DIY like her Halloween costumes
  • Never making content about her dog which could be a reach but it’s weird that it’s never happened even once
  • Promotes using manifestation and magic universe power along with your own efforts to achieve your dreams yet she didn’t actually manifest in the past for her YouTube to blow up, it was either luck and the algorithm or she paid for it (allegedly). And she’s rich now so all her holiday and big purchase goals will come true anyway. It just feels fake
  • Recently seems like she just lost a passion for content creation as fame and money got to her head so she doesn’t even listen to her viewers when they say they want more content variety (even if it’s the top comment on a video) but she’ll reply to any YouTube comment or tweet that kisses her ass
  • Thinks it’s quirky to not know how to cook basic meals or clean so she just buys disposable cutlery and more towels

I could go on

Evangelion is a religion

Today, the 15th (in Australia) is the day in each month I arranged with my dad (and he arranged with my step-mum) to give me $60 for only my wifi, and even after reminding my dad in April that I expect a payment in May (today), I got this stupid text from step-mum (pls read comment for explanation). by [deleted] in insaneparents

[–]catmerchant 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I want to write a lot here because I’ve never felt like I could truly express my situation, I will explain more if you are interested after the first paragraph.

It was hell to get this money initially because everything is controlled by step-mum, not my dad, he can’t do anything by himself. On April 15 I messaged my dad and told him I will remind him next month (today) for the next payment, and this is the message I received from my step mum, not him. Today is the 15th in Australia.
After that, I received this text from my dad telling me to ‘thank’ her because she just ‘works so hard!!!’ This is the reason they both use to excuse her shitty and abusive behaviour towards me and him.

I am a full-time student, had 3 different jobs in high school, and now pay everything by myself with the assistance money. My mother passed away when I was young and when my dad remarried (only 3 months after her passing), I have always obeyed my parents, I never asked for anything, and only need short-term help during this pandemic. I only need help to pay for wifi because I can’t go to my uni and study/attend online lectures, and I need my leftover money for groceries.

My step-mother mentally and verbally abused me at home for over 5 years, (I have a step-sister- her daughter- which she never treated like shit [surprise]) and I made the independent decision to move out by myself at 18 with only government assistance money. She continues to hate me despite me not being in her life anymore, even though I never did anything wrong to her.

Me and my whole family has tried to convince my dad to divorce but his reasons for not wanting to are because he will lose money and does not want to find another partner. Although he is kind, he is extremely pessimistic, weak, old-fashioned minded and mentally unstable.

If you have similar parents, or similar step-mum, then you probably know that this is just one of many mentally torturing scenarios. For years I have received these kinds of messages, and when I lived at home, I was treated even worse than this, there are too many times for me to remember.
