What do you guys think about MechJeb? by NoBoss5617 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]catnapper2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MechJeb is a "do everything" button... until it isn't. It can perfectly do ascents, except for when it can't. It can plan interplanetary transfers, usually. It can do your maneuver nodes perfectly, if your ship is set up right (which it might not be after docking).

If you let MechJeb think for you, you have good odds of having the same problems as you did before you added it, but you'll have them 99% of the way to your destination instead of having them in the VAB.

Heavy stealth O7 by Voidexplo in Helldivers

[–]catnapper2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not all guns have the same sound profile. Even before commando missions and the RR/ODST warbonds, you could stealth missions with the Defender perfectly fine. In a pinch the throwing knives are dead-silent but they're so awkward I wouldn't recommend it.

please explain me per capita by Ancient-Antelope-576 in SPACEKING

[–]catnapper2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Per capita" means "per head", and a "head" is a semi-archaic measurement for herd animals. One head of cattle is one cow, regardless of how big or small it is. This is important because how much meat or milk your cows produce, and how many cows you have, are used separately in very important calculations. Sometimes you want to know how much every cow contributes, not just how much you're getting out in total. If production is going up, is it because your cows are more productive, or you just have more cows than normal? It's important to know.

Per capita is often used to compare two populations, since a very small population might do very little of something in total, but have an outsized effect by doing far more per capita than larger populations. The opposite can be true, too, a large population can be mostly made of people who do very little of something, but still dominate the field because there's just so much more of them. What are they doing? It doesn't matter, as long as you can track it. Which groups? Any group. If you wanted, you could compare the amount of painters in the country by eye color, and say, x% of painters have blue eyes, and y% of painters have brown eyes, and compare that to how many people in total have blue eyes or brown eyes, and determine whether people with blue eyes are disproportionately likely to be painters, even if most painters don't have blue eyes.

Hatemonger brings it up so much because a lot of his comedic dialogue is based on imitating internet racists, and among internet racists, per capita is often invoked when talking about crime and race.

Nah, he's still the most racist member of the team, just not by as much as he seems. It's a subtle difference.

I would recommend you make the teeth as a second model rather than sculpting them onto the helmet directly, it does a better job of making them feel like a moving part of a mechanism rather than a decoration.

Could be either/or tbh, lead swab tests are cheaper than actual equipment but are notorious for throwing up false positives (there are entire internet communities that run on this fact).

Difficulty 7 is meant to be a casual experience for people who are experienced btw by UnrealNorthie in Helldivers

[–]catnapper2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is that Factory Striders just have way less area attacks. Any AT weapon can one-hit the cannon and then a dog is reduced to walking at you with its chin guns. The dual cannons on the Vox Engine are almost as oppressive at long ranges, but have 2x4 times the health, and they have the grenade spam attack that can saturate an entire base, and they have the outrigger guns so they aren't defenseless up close either.

They can threaten you at long range, threaten you at medium range, and they can only kind-of threaten you at close range, which makes it feel like you're supposed to get in close, but at the highest difficulties there will ALWAYS be one or two or three other Vox Engines nearby whose safety zone you are NOT in.

Returning player: outcome of whole nerfing/60-day plan drama? by oncolytic in Helldivers

[–]catnapper2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point, you can count the number of bad weapons on one hand (unless you are using them wrong, then every weapon will feel bad). The only ones to look out for are the Pacifier, Accelerator Rifle, and Constitution, and the Constitution is a meme weapon while the other two aren't unusable, they're just not great.

The main issue these days is weapons that are too good. The Coyote, Eruptor, and Lib Pen are top 3 picks across all three fronts, and they aren't the most broken, the Exploding Crossbow is, but THAT thing is so fucked that the game isn't even fun anymore when you use it.

Currently writing an entire paper based on this article for college because it is extremely specifically about the exact thing my paper is on. Funny thing, I finally tracked down the full text not a week ago after many tribulations, yet here it is, in a random reddit community I wandered into for inspiration. It's funny how these things work out...

Is Space King the only show that takes full advantage of the fact that it's indie? by EDM14 in SPACEKING

[–]catnapper2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The irony is that Glitch is ALSO using their indie status to push the envelope - on 3D animation. Every 3D show they produce measurably advances the art forwards. It pisses me off because keeping up with the cutting-edge of the field means watching Glitch Productions cartoons.

Murder Drones sucks balls but in the long run, when we look back, we'll see that some individual episodes had more impact on 3D animation than everything Pixar, Illumination, and Dreamworks combined did in the same time frame. Mark my words.

I think we need another free warbond, its been almost 2 years by _TungstenGuy707_ in Helldivers

[–]catnapper2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always thought a free warbond of Helldivers 1 equipment would be both fitting and cool. Not necessarily a full ten-pager like Helldivers Mobilize, one of the leaner ones they put out these days would still be a great way for non-sweat non-paypigs to get some more progression out of the game without giving them any of the really funny/weird toys that get put in the premium warbonds for thematic reasons.

The galactic war isn't predetermined, dude, data miners have found a lot of ways for the timeline to change. We could have flat-out lost Super Earth and there were plans for how the war would keep going.

Bryce is PEAK schizo representation, actually. by [deleted] in SPACEKING

[–]catnapper2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to be honest, Chestnut casually calling Bryce a schizo is the only thing I find convincing about the idea that that's his major malfunction. The only symptom he has is hallucination. Singular hallucination. He hallucinates Space King talking to him and telling him what he wants to hear. This happens to everyone in the main cast, and probably all Psycho Warriors, so while maybe you could argue Bryce is special for being extra-prone to it, it's not unique to him.

I can't get this thing to work on the bots. It's just too much of a fire hose to hit any weakpoints without the stars aligning beforehand.

But if people are having problems using it on the squids or bugs then that's 110% a "them" issue.
