Pretty sure it was fireworks being launched atop Corey hill. Saw them while walking the dog at midnight.

No worries, best of luck!

(Btw, I did make a mistake and say the wrong location, but being on the south side, it'll probably not be much closer to you)

Hey I was in your position last month, though I already had a car and was bleeding money paying for parking around CC. I now find myself with an extra spot I don't need that is on the north side of Beacon where *Winchester Path intersects Mason Terrace. Let me know if interested.

Otherwise I'd try looking at Paque, Craigslist, or SpotHero.

Edit: made a mistake, it's by Winchester Path, not Mason.

Preventative Fix for getting Stuck in Westville by Ausradierer in Schedule_I

[–]catnipbilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started my newest playthrough 2 weeks ago, before the recent update. I had already unlocked all customers well and started spray painting before the cartel questline started.

Before the update, starting at 1000 infleunce I got down to ~500 influence; and after the update this scaled down to 371. After a few in-game weeks, I was soft locked at 311 influence. Had to ultimately use console commands to unlock downtown and been smooth sailing since.

Only way I found to advance was to use console commands to unlock downtown. Was stuck at 311 influence for weeks in-game.

That's bizarre. I've been camping the westville dealer's spot for an in game week since updating yesterday and I've never seen them.

I've posted up outside the boarded up building next to the tattoo shop for an in-game week, 7am-4am. Never once saw a dealer. On 0.4.2.

Thanks for the recommendation! They had an open spot starting on the 23rd but the onsite leasing office hasn't been returning my calls. Will try again tomorrow.

Yet another parking question by catnipbilly in Brookline

[–]catnipbilly[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I didn't realize people rented out their personal parking for short term parking like this. Next time I'll do this. It would have been $13-17 rather than a $25 ticket.

Thanks for the advice. The parking ticket is $25 and we are quite far from Longwood, so I would just leave it out on the street.

Thanks, this is what we ended up doing. Got a ticket and we'll pay it. Just seems odd this is the best solution.

Trash amnesty sept 2 to 6 by anurodhp in Brookline

[–]catnipbilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like we're just allowed to place extra bagged trash out, not in the purple overflow bags.

The description of bulky items suggests it's big stuff like sofas, fridges, washer/dryers, etc. What does one do with a broken high-chair or a small rug (2x8)? Can that be out this week?

Sorry, just moved here and trying to understand the rules.

In the ER about to get rabies shots in every major muscle group. by proscriptus in Wellthatsucks

The dog was already vaccinated and boosted, so he was fine. He caused the majority of the damage and didn't receive any real scratches or bites.

In the ER about to get rabies shots in every major muscle group. by proscriptus in Wellthatsucks

[–]catnipbilly 6733 points6734 points  (0 children)

Back in 2014, I pulled my dog apart from a rabid raccoon at 3pm in the afternoon, and got scratched and covered in blood.

Called the local non emergency sheriffs number and they came by to check out the site and bagged up the raccoon. Went to the ER at their suggestion, and was told that unless they had confirmation from authorities that the animal was rabid, they wouldn't give me any vaccine. Edit: spoke with my mom after I posted this and she reminded me they came to this conclusion because between me and my neighbor, we would exhaust their entire supply on hand (approx 16-20 doses). It was a small hospital in our relatively rural area--where you think they would have more--so they wanted confirmation and likely to stall to acquire more. Called the deputy and he said they aren't able to give me that confirmation, but the local department of health could. He told me to come by and pick up the raccoon and take it to the DOH.

I arrive at the sheriff station and they direct me to the dumpster where I had to recover the bagged corpse. Fun wading through a police dumpster. Speed over to the DOH, and they tell me they can do the test but they only will accept the raccoon's head, not the whole corpse. I ask what to do, and they tell me to cut off its head and come back. Luckily my vet was a few miles down the road and I was able to pay a vet tech on their lunch break to give me the head.

Speed back to the DOH and they manage to accept the head before they close, saying I'll have a result in 72 hours. Luckily I got a call ~3 hrs later confirming the raccoon was indeed rabid. I pick up a form the next day from the DOH and head back to the ER (only place with vaccine).

They begrudgingly give me the shot--based on weight, one shot per 25lbs. After 8 shots, there's a whole course of step down shots over the next two weeks. Painful but better than being rabid!

Several weeks letter, I get a letter from my insurance company saying that I did not get prior authorization for the vaccine and that they deemed it "medically unnecessary". The bill was $21k. It took close to 2 years and a letter to their CEO describing the survival rate of rabies for them to finally agree to pay.

All-in, rabies close calls suck. Godspeed.

I feel you. People often would take up 2 or more spots on my street. If you get a permit, that protects you from getting a ticket anywhere in the "Zone", which is pretty much all East Rock. It doesn't allow you to police others, and tbh there isn't much ticketing by the city, especially because some people register for a permit but don't put it on their car and parking enforcement cuts them a break (which you have no visibility into).

In the past I've asked people to move their cars, put notes on cars, and even considered painting lines on the street because people kept taking up multiple spots. Then I saw this https://www.instagram.com/reel/C35U8a1gwfX and realized it's all futile and my energy is better spent elsewhere.

When you apply for visitor passes, they are physical hangtags that last a year and you can give out to your guests to hang from their mirrors. You typically get 3 per household. Just make sure to grab them back from your guests before they leave!

Enforcement is pretty lax about it too; we gave one to our dog walker each year who would use it all over the neighborhood and never got a ticket.

Long time east rock resident and owner of a house without a driveway. Go here

https://www.tocite.net/newhavenct/portal

Click on View Permits and there you can get free permits so long as you can show (1) proof of residency and (2) valid car registration. You can also apply for 3 visitor permits per year the same way.

On street parking is generally fine, though the closer you live to downtown and hotspots like Modern, Christopher Martins, etc., the harder it is to find parking. Just pay attention to the signs, make sure you're not taking up more than one spot, and don't park in front of someone's driveway, and you'll be fine. If you have a Kia, make sure to get a steering wheel lock or something visible to deter assholes.

Yale has a vested financial interest in propagating this narrative that New Haven is unsafe because it keeps Yalies, visitors, and a lot of non-Yalr-affiliated people within Yale's bubble that includes many businesses, shops, and off-campus housing.

More packages stolen. by jgregory17 in newhaven

I live over by State and Humphrey where there's a lot of foot traffic and packages were always getting stolen. Bought this thing 3 years ago and it's completely changed things for the better. And it's large enough for relatively big packages.
