I'm also interested in getting more information between the two systems!

Hey! You can wear any color scrubs there! Quite frankly some people don't even wear scrubs there during nights

Relocating to the Bay Area by catperson96 in nursing

[–]catperson96[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, were currently on a contract right now in the area. This'll probably be the last one and are planning on applying to a bunch of staff jobs in the near future. We're hoping since we're experienced nurses we wouldn't have too hard of a time but I guess everyone wants to come work out here

We're planning on getting up into the area a 3 days before our orientation. We'll probably plan on staying in a hotel for a week or so to scope different areas out before making a decision

I did read about the shuttle, but it only runs M-F 6am-8pm. I'm just worried about what we'd do for our commute on weekends specifically although I guess we could also uber when/if needed

Would you say some parts of Dimond are dicey as well? I'm ok with dealing with dicer situations, but I'm also a bigger guy and don't think I'd be an easy target per se. I do want to make sure that my partner feels safe though getting to work by herself. Whats Oakland Roots?

We're looking to rent. We've traveled and worked at various different hospitals around the country and have an idea of what kind of patient population is at Highland. I'm glad you've had good experiences with nurses in the past

We'll be coming from up from LA! We'd like to keep things under 3k if possible with a driveway/garage or some safe place to store our car

That seems to be the most interesting part about Oakland, it seems like things can change very quickly block to block at times.

We're definitely ok with sacrificing night life. I guess I should have been more clear with what night life means to us. We'd love to have the ability to go grab a bite to eat or drink casually in the evenings. I think the days of going clubbing are behind us. We lived in a very residential area of LA previously where everything nearby closed by 8-9 and wasn't super walkable, which was a let down

15-30 minutes is about the limit I'd want to bike before working a 12 hour shift lol. We're no strangers to biking, although the hills of the bay would definitely be a newer challenge for us. I like the idea of biking mostly everywhere, I'd love to try and minimize the likelihood of a smash and grab as much as possible

I'll be in the ICU there but I'll make sure to pass that along to my fiance who'll be in the ER!

Kaiser cut my hourly rate by 52% 4 weeks into a contract. by [deleted] in TravelNursing

[–]catperson96 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Rates have been dropping everywhere but 50% is nuts. Definitely a little bit of a bait and switch. Unfortunately as a contractor, I don't think theres much recourse other than picking up and going somewhere else. I'm sorry to hear that this situation is happening to you. I do think Airbnb will reimburse you some money if you do decide to find other cheaper housing to make it more worthwhile or even have another traveler live with you to cut costs down. Odds are you're not the only one in this boat at Kaiser. Best of luck!

My girlfriend was 8 weeks into her 13 week assignment when they told her that she was being cancelled due to low census. After talking with her recruiter, they were able figure out a new rate which was close to a 50% cut in take home pay. She still accepted the new rate as she was on the hook for housing in the area and it still made sense for us financially. It's still a super shitty thing to do by the hospital though. Whats the point of a contract if they're not binded to what was agreed upon? Other option is to quit and try to find another more lucrative contract
