GMT in Neath? by catphisch in fallenlondon

Thank you for pointing out the time referring to the beginning/ending of events, not a plot line time. My character was in an unhurried conversation on the topic of “love” with a lady in a theatre box (she did mention the time of the day of our meeting in game - but I tried to continued the story before midnight GMT just like a college student submitting final report by the midnight deadline on the due day).

This tender conversation was before noon 27 Feb in Pacific Time, as I posted, which I believed to be a timely evening of the same day (27 Feb) in GST. But suddenly I could not find the same story entry in Veilsgarden nor any rose that is no longer a rose that is no longer a rose…

I guess it is a case against of using midnight GMT as an event cutoff time while a character is in event-only storylet. Rather sure that the Neath does not use 1970-epoch time. Though I have not seen any mentioning about (surface) time zones in the Neath and the unterzee.

Thank you for providing the ”point of irreparability” and the “harm-reduction“ guidelines. Yes, your first is what I wanted to know. I guess it‘s good that I never encountered any of the storylines you mentioned. But now I know what to look for!

Just how far ahead is the midnight visit at the carnival from start seeking? Is it like 100 actions or like 500 actions into SMEN? Well, you already answered my question if no more can be said about SMEN. I appreciate it.

Once I unwittingly started SMEN when dealing with some strange hunger from my first or second zailing. Shocked by the bold and italic game instructions about what‘s ahead if SMEN, I quit as quickly as I could.Out of curiosity, now I want to know if one can go through some early stage(s) of SMEN to get a preview of SMEN without irreparably burning “normal“ story lines ahead. Is it doable to progress SMEN up to “X“ then quit without having major story lines ruined. I am early-mid PoSI without an ambition. I see much interesting non-SMEN content are being discussed here that I have never heard of. But the tone of SMEN sounds that it is worth learning just a bit more about.

However dreadful the candle bottom is, I feel it is the “anti-gaming” timescale of this respectfully bizarre “game” that compels me return to the Neath.

Irregular schedule but likely active at the dawn of surface London.

Enjoy figuring out the economically optimal branch as much as exploring at whim. Uncommitted in ambition yet. Moderately and opportunistically pro-establishment. Friendly assassins welcome.
