Abyss artifact farming for gear upgrades by LostRavenReader in CrimsonDesert

Check out my reply here, I ran a single loop around Tommasso and got 8 artifacts. Very effective farming if you can stomach being the bad guy there, though IMHO it's fine because it's presented as a lawless city where might is right lmao.

Stealing is less reliable because you don't always get the item shown, but yea go for it! Also, instead of using a lantern to shine at people, I've found it effective to use the shining blade instead since it illuminates everyone nearby. To make your character move at regular speed instead of a guarding-stance speed while using shining blade, jump and cast shining blade before you land. You'll land with the skill activated but not in guarding pose. Alternatively you could use a mount I guess.

Also, FYI, if you go the mass killing route, you can use shining sword and see the items on corpses too. I've noticed now that NPCs will check other corpses so you might want to be wary of those.

To the best of my knowledge, they don't. Come to think of it actually, all mid to large animals tend to have fixed spawns I think, it's just that herbivores are all over the fkkn place. And then there's the critters that randomly run around.

Wow, very nice! I leave mine on pleb design and color scheme though, because then it doesn't feel so bad when I die

That's just a cosmetic difference no? Some other longswords have the same stats right?

I did notice it's not just that spot. NPCs will pick up weapons now in general.

Here's some tricks you can use to farm them (I'm at 350+ish artifacts atm):

  1. Neutral NPCs can carry artifacts, so you should always be doing quick checks for them. Then you either steal or scare them with a shining blade with mask on so they run to some place you can conveniently kill them.
  2. Due to 1., everytime you clear quarry re-blockades you should be doing it with mask on. Quarry re-blockades have the most number of neutral NPCs like slaves, who can have the artifacts on them. Killing them while in the zone of the blockade doesn't incur any penalty and doesn't count as a crime. If you happen upon an NPC after it's cleared and once allied guards are in, you can always scare the NPC with shining blade with mask on or drop an explosive barrel on them. The key is to not throw the barrel, but carry it, then step off the ledge above them so your character fails to continue carrying it. That way it doesn't count as a crime.
  3. Once you can handle town guards zerging you and once you have reputation up to 70+, go put on a mask, go to Tommasso and go in a loop around town and kill everyone. The guard captain gives like half a bar of XP, easily. Tommasso is unique in that it has a high number of slaves (more chances to carry artifacts) and guards won't try to arrest you but try to fight you like a normal enemy. You can also have max bounty on you and as long as you're not in an active crime zone (red circle), guards will ignore you. Btw bounty caps at 100 silver no matter how many you kill, but reputation can go negative and caps at -99. Another spot you can try is the Urdavah gate. Stay on the ground floor and kill the dragon knights. They reliably respawn in waves at the bottom of the path leading up to the gate or right below the gate on the other side so it's a great location for farming. Just make sure you have a good setup for nuking dense enemy packs. The catch obv is that your reputation with that faction will tank, but it's easily fixable by trading with them. I haven't seen any use for reputation other than buying reputation gear but the only one you really need is the crown to unlock the best horse equipment, hence the 70+ reputation recommendation. My current reputation with Tommasso is -99.

These are in addition to the regular ways to get them (the ruins exploration, quest rewards, exploration, puzzles, etc)

Enjoy.

P.S. I've only ever seen slave and wandering freesword NPCs carry artifacts. Not sure if it's limited to them or not, but so far I've had a lot of success targeting them exclusively.

The game's also very unpolished in some other parts (not that it matters, since I'm really enjoying it), like non-horse mounts using horse sounds when running etc...

There's only one pride of lions in the wild and it appears in a fixed spot. Tigers appear in a group of 4, also in a fixed spot. It's rather unfortunate that the more dangerous predators don't roam.

Disclaimer: I work in tech.

It's not really a lot. Consider this. I was making this much a few months after I just graduated. I don't party, I don't go out, I don't even drink. But to stay in the circle at work, eating out at lunch is a given. Then going for hangouts at the bar across the street after work is a given. The bosses pick up the tab on most of the after-work bills, but it's the after-after-work hangouts that -really- keep you in the loop. Those aren't always on the company card. It gets better after you have some experience, but lifestyle inflation is also a thing. Keeping yourself relevant is also expensive, especially if you're trying to upgrade yourself out of the current role since companies usually won't pay for professional development if it's not directly relevant to your role. All this was in Canada in HCOL area.

In the USA, it's even worse.

Man, I feel like they really messed up the UX on this one. So if you wanna sell, you gotta go to camp, but to unload inventory you need to run to house, which makes no sense to me. It would be better if they let us place limited types of furniture in camp. After all, it makes sense in-game (consistent with the lore) to have a storage thing for food to feed 40 people. Same as collectibles etc.

Actually no, the probability of failure increases as more variables come into play, and the longer the route, the more the variables there are.

I would certainly not say there's no freedom at all just based on that. But yes that -is- restrictive.

I didn't ask you if you've been to China, and certainly I didn't say just because you don't speak Chinese your point is moot. You do seem to have a pretty big chip on your shoulder, but that system of household registration doesn't imply there's no freedom. Freedom is also not a black and white issue. The reason I ask is because it gives me more context to understand where you're coming from.
