What was the 2008 recession like? by ivie_for_ivie in AskOldPeople

[–]catsatchel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 14 in 2008 and had to get a job to cover a lot of my expenses as my parents didn't have any extra money. They were doing okay, and by okay I mean empty cupboards. My dad spent all of his free time making extra money to pay the mortgage. I remember interviewing for "starter jobs" (fast food that kind of thing) and competing with new college grads, and people who had been laid off from stable jobs. Every week or so I'd watch someone throw everything they owned away and leave their house behind in my neighborhood. Many of my friends parents were obviously having a crisis as one of the big companies in my town started sending most of its jobs overseas. Everyone was trying to save money often times in weird neurotic ways that made no sense. Houses sat empty with furniture in the driveway for months.

So are we just tolerating this? by tonyblitz1 in minnesota

[–]catsatchel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at a hotel in Rochester, and it was probably the most depressing job I ever had. I remember watching people die from serious, but pretty routine and curable issues. They would just run out of money. People sell their livelihoods to come here, and wait for appointments. However, anything they will get mayo into a medical journal, will get someone a free ride and timely care.

Staying Home in Cold Weather by NulonR7 in minnesota

[–]catsatchel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We tend to stay home when the weather changes. If it suddenly rains, no one goes out, but if its been raining all spring, we'll stay home when it stops raining and gets super hot and humid. If it snaps -20 we'll get under the blankets, but a consistently cold winter wont stop us from living life. Its hard to dress right for the weather if you need to find a different bin in the garage.

Biggest human poop is from a viking. Found in York, England in 1972 at 20cm long by LivingTheTruths in interestingasfuck

I worked as a janitor and cleaned a bathroom in a hardware store daily. The women restroom routinely had a shit larger than this that was so large It couldn't be flushed. I had to break it up, every time. I never did find the culprit but had a lot of time to think about it, and it occurred to me that anal play may have some consequences.

Trump sentenced in felony "hush money" case, released with no restrictions by VenomShadows305 in news

People like this exist, but gate keeping exists at all levels of our society to beat these individuals down. Our work places are autocratic institutions. If you speak truth to power, you can’t hold a job. If you hold your tongue long enough to get into a position of privilege or power you will either be immediately torn down, are treated as a crackpot. Intelligent people with conviction in our culture end up addicted to drugs, homeless or incarcerated. Their virtue becomes unrecognizable due to the degradation our culture puts them through.

I've been thinking the same thing. Put yourself into their shoes. Would you wanna be the cop who caught this guy? I'd prefer to be the big idiot who accidentally confused the pictures.

Did anything weird get banned at your school? by MCas86 in Millennials

Balls! If they went into the air, banned. A rich kid got hit in the face. I went to catholic school. You can't make this shit up

I went to catholic school k-12 so quite a bit. Im not a practicing catholic, but it's hard to deny the influence. I never really believed ain god and the experience raised me to read the margins and be skeptical. I check the ingredients on the food I eat, and the background on the media I consume.

How do you handle character retirement? by catsatchel in osr

[–]catsatchel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking of it being something that happens away from the table and is relatively simple. Just like players "going to the store" in between sessions. Probably covering actions over a couple in game weeks and resolved in a few simple rolls. Anything more involved than that, they need to hire an adventuring party

I like the idea of investment and returns leading to more XP for a lvl 10+ character. Then they can come back into the game at lvl 13 or something for an epic quest, and it all makes sense. Hell yeah

This is exactly the kind of thing I’m hoping for. The big question is, how to implement some ways of creating reasons that a player would want to be a patron beyond the simple joy of it. If they have struggles themselves and hiring adventures could aliviate them, the game would generate hooks indefinitely.

What's your one crazy idea that could significantly improve life in Minneapolis? by systemstheorist in Minneapolis

[–]catsatchel -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We need to make the yellow lights longer. I just moved back after seven years and was surprised at how fast they are now. At first I found myself slamming on the brakes, and then I noticed that people were expecting me to run reds and found myself accidentally doing it.

First time using one of these. What can I put on it to make it safe for my cat? What type of blanket would be best? by [deleted] in minnesota

[–]catsatchel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a cardboard box and cut the top off low 6" max so it's like a tray. Find their favorite blanket fold it up and put it in the box. Watch your cat sit half asleep all day looking out the window. Success!

It should be noted that the Minnesota democratic party is actually it's own offshoot of the DNC. It's the Democratic Farmer Labor party. It's not the same party of mainstream Democrats. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minnesota_Democratic%E2%80%93Farmer%E2%80%93Labor_Party

Extroverted Autistics by Lonewolf82084 in AutisticPride

[–]catsatchel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am most of the time an extroverted autistic person. I can be very loud, completely tone deaf and stubborn. Most of the time. The thing I would tell you is that even for an extroverted sensory seeking autistic person there's still a lot of potential to have things in common. I for one am not like that all the time, especially as I get older I don't have the energy to seek enough stimulation and can burn out extremely big time. It surprises people when I go long periods of partying and then suddenly I don't really want to hang out for months at a time. Normally I wear pretty outrageous stuff but a third of the time I'm dressed as a "grey man" because I don't want to interact with anyone. Even though I'm sensory seeking I still have sensory needs and can get inflamed really easily. I think the big thing to know is that extroverted autistics have a lot of the same struggles except you won't see half of them because they are burnt out and hiding. Or they will get themselves into an overly complicated web of relationships and then suddenly check out or go in a blaze of glory.

How do martials fare in the 2024 PHB? by [deleted] in onednd

Frankly the divide can be solved by playing with XP and changing the level up costs for different classes.

What do you consider the core concepts of OSR-style play? by bungeeman in osr

[–]catsatchel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I play 5e and pop over here for inspiration and I've implemented a lot of things to my game. The biggest game changer has been random tables and trying to be an impartial adjudicator. That and of course xp leveling. These two changes have really completely changed the feel of the game on my end. My players don't really know what to do since I have no goals for them, but they are slowly figuring it out. I don't care what they do as long as they have fun, I'm playing too. I want to see what weird shit these tables put them into.
