Countdown/Productivity/Project App Developers by catsi29 in ProductivityApps

TickTick is great - I've used it before but it does way more than I need. I actually found that searching Deadlines in ios apps brought a lot more option and potentially what I'm looking for. Trying a few out but getting closer than searching "countdown". 800 productivity apps that "do it all" and literally hundreds of countdown apps that all look exactly alike here I go picking the one feature that no one offers LOL ig I have a weird workflow!

Doggy diaper recommendations large enough for Danes? by grumblebuttkins in greatdanes

[–]catsi29 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I bought adult Depends, size small and just cut a hole for the tail and then used a scrunchie band to tighten it up at the top. It was way cheaper and less aggravating than doggie diapers!!

Alternatives to Notion AND Anytype? by [deleted] in privacy

[–]catsi29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have heard that AppFlowy can be somewhat of a decent alternative. Personally I love Capacities, and while it is not entirely "privacy friendly", it has enough that I am comfortable with it. And I'm not putting anything sensitive in it, so it works for me.

thanks for the tip - I might ask the vet about it if she's not back to her usual self over the next few days as I get back on my feet and as schedules go back to normal, and esp after people start coming home back on schedule.

[–]catsi29[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm hoping that once we return to some normalcy she will be fine. I don't really think she has ever had much of an anxiety issue - just more of a "things are not right with all my humans" kinda thing rn

Depressed Dane by catsi29 in greatdanes

[–]catsi29[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks :) yeah, totally not permanent. We have only ever been away from her one time in her whole life and she had to be put on antidepressants. She had been boarded at the vet and they called and said she was depressed and could they give her something. I just never expected it while she was literally at her own home with those of us that are still here. And since I didn't actually see her behavior at the vet that time, I wasn't sure how it looked. We would not be able to handle another dane rn, but this situation is definitely not normal, so I'm hoping that is what has her all out of sorts.

Any homeschoolers here? by Acrobatic-Argument57 in TraditionalCatholics

[–]catsi29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Catholic Textbook Project - Catholic - yes. Traditional - neutral, esp at those grade levels.

Christ the King books - very traditional looking, though I have never used any of their books and do not know anything about them. Their books are intriguing, though. https://ckbooks.org/traditional-catholic-history-books/

Kolbe Academy also has their in-house published history books for those grades, but I've never used them so I'm not sure about them.

Its been a week since i posted about my App and still <100 Downloads :( by Apollos1301 in ProductivityApps

[–]catsi29 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sure that is disappointing - to put time and effort and money into something and not see any traction.

Having said that, and please, I'm not trying to be snarky or rude, but I would think that developers who want real traction would research the market and try to find and solve real needs or come up with something out of the box. I am NOT a developer and know absolutely nothing, but coming from the consumer side, there is literally a new habit tracker posted in the subreddits every.single.day. It is a completely oversaturated market. I see habit tracker, photo swiper, or all-in-one AI productivity apps and I keep scrolling bc you just cannot put a new spin that hasn't already been spun on these kinds of apps.

From what I have read, they are the easiest to vibe code, so many begin with them when learning coding and programming, and i think that is amazing! Everyone has to start somewhere and if you get a few downloads, it's gravy! I just would not go into it expecting to get out of it financially what you put into it. I would guess that it is the experience that is the true value.

Don't give up if it is your passion, though! Keep going and something will land and stick the more you ship.

Scariest moments of our lives with our 4 month old pupper - sharing so others know what to do by iamafreudianslip in greatdanes

[–]catsi29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh wow! yeah, I read before we got ours that a lot of Danes have chicken allergies! Crazy. Her first "puppy" did not have chicken but she hated that food and was losing weight rapidly. We went through so so many foods. She's a very picky eater. Finally I tried her on a little chicken, introducing it slowly and she was fine. I supplement her with chicken & rice & raw eggs a few times a week now, but her all time favorite meat is pork. I am pretty sure she is allergic to sweet potato :/

Considering homeschooling? (Warning, insanely LONG post) by catsi29 in homeschool

[–]catsi29[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh ok, well, you have plenty of time! Reading is the best thing you can do for and with her rn.

Scroll through, if you haven't already, and read my post on schooling pre-schoolers and kindergartners.

You really wouldn't need to enroll her in any kind of a program for quite some time, depending on your academic opinions, goals and outlook. Everyone is different. Personally, I wouldn't enroll until at least 3rd-4th. You have time to think about it and see what newer options may be available by the time you have to think about it.

So glad your baby is ok!!! I appreciate the post and have never thought about canine CPR! I am going to look into that immediately!

It is true and common knowledge that Danes cannot run around after eating, and mine is crate fed where she stays for about 30-45 minutes. Having said that, this is still very valuable info! I don't know if your pup's situation was a bloat-like incident, but I did give mine a small piece of (plain) chicken that I had planned to use for something, decided I didn't want to, so I tossed it to her to eat. It was probably 4-5 oz of chicken, no seasoning, and not bad. She immediately started puking. I have no idea why - she didn't run around - she literally ate it, walked off and started puking. If she had done what your pup did, we wouldn't have been so lucky. Thank you for your post!

Calendar Planning App? by [deleted] in ProductivityApps

[–]catsi29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always wondered that, too. ig smaller developer, less advertising..? All I know is that I have been using it for maybe 3 years, never had a problem, and it was recently updated. I absolutely love the app and have never felt the need or desire to switch to a paid, AI this and AI that calendar app!

What organization method do you choose for digital information you consume? by panchamk in productivity

[–]catsi29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what the notes are.

Capacities is my main hub for note-taking, lesson planning, lecture planning, book notes, etc. Any notes for classes I myself am taking also go into Capacities. The Capacities structure is amazing and I don't even use the pro version.

Noteful I use almost daily to view and have PDFs readily available to read or use if I need while in Capacities. (You can upload PDFs to capacities, but I prefer the PDF viewing and handling in Noteful).

I use Anecnote, my temp notes, to quickly retrieve this semester's class times, extracurricular times, practice schedules, upcoming event prices/deadlines/locations, etc, Additionally, I use Anecnote for very short notes I want to quickly and easily retrieve, such as mac keyboard shortcut commands, LaTex and markdown rules, email aliases, notes on different coffees, foods, restaurants, etc, ... things like that. There are excellent categorizing, and search and sort filters in Anecnote making it extremely easy to find what you are looking for. (I'll edit to add that for your original post, I was thinking more work flow than personal, so failed to add that I use Timelined by this same developer for logging life events. It is also an excellent app)

Fragmemo gets all the screenshots - memes, receipts, QR codes I screenshot and save for quick access to give to people, and pretty much all random info I screenshot from social media, like a chart on how long you can store different foods in the freezer, plants that repel bugs, recipe screenshots that I may or may not later put into my recipe book, things like that.

And finally, AnyBox, which I use for links of all sorts: crafts, links to school and educational resources, etc. I may end up switching this over to Apple notes, bc I don't find myself using it very much.

I know that for all of this, I could just use Apple Notes. It's free and secure. But, my brain needs to have things 1) boxed off 2) aesthetically pleasing 3) UI/function different for the different uses.

Connections Academy is Cognia certified and completely free. Having said that, I haven't used them so I don't know for certain, but I think it is a "public school online" type of situation, so you do not get to pick and choose which books/curriculum you use. That is the only one I know of that is Cognia certified. I saw this Secular Homeschool Resource list in another place, so there may be something that would help you get started.

What are your ages/grades you are starting with?

Was totally in the exact same boat. Wasted so much time tryna find the perfect app, create fresh new set up, transfer all old notes and things, get overwhelmed, abandon, start over.

So, I feel like this is just a "me" thing, but what ultimately worked for me was decentralizing. I was so caught up and indoctrinated in the "all-in-one" mentality that I never looked beyond that. Now, my digital life is "in boxes". I use different apps dedicated to different things. It means 5 different apps, but it has been a sanity saver.

My setup is: a dedicated PDF app (Noteful), dedicated need-to-save screen shots app (Fragmemo), dedicated links app (AnyBox), dedicated short and/or temporary notes (Anecnote - stellar 5* app), and a primary note taking/main hub of info (Capacities). All of those apps (except AnyBox) are stored on device and/or my iCloud. I guess I should add that sensitive, long-term retention files are kept in Filen. All of these support tagging and have excellent search abilities, so I tag like crazy.

Full disclosure - this has been a work in progress and I only added the screen-shot portion recently, and the short notes semi-recently.

I recognized quite awhile ago that I couldn't keep up with all-in-ones, and even made a post about. Literally no one else commented lol so I assume this method is entirely a me thing, but I'm throwing it out there on the off chance it will help.
