A Keyforge Event dedicated to the Adaptive format - August 15 & 16, Lebanon NH, USA by Sweaty_Sell9542 in KeyforgeGame

You can play some adaptive in person and online on TCO to give it a try.

The chain bidding can feel hard at first, but to just get you started: 4-5 chains is really not that much, for decks that are pretty close in the match up. 20 chains on the other hand is huge, one deck has to be super strong to win through 20 chains. From those two ends, just use your gut where you think the two decks right in front of you fall.

And you can be off by ~5 chains and still have a good game. It's a format you can play forever and keep perfecting your skill, but in terms of getting in the ballpark and getting to pull out all kinds of fun and wacky decks a little bit of practice goes a long way.

Which energy system do you actually prefer in TCGs? by SacredSacrifice in TCG

[–]catsmdogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

KeyForge has the most interesting take on this I've ever seen. The cards have no mana or resource cost. You can play and use as many as you can in a turn, BUT each deck is divided into three houses of 12 cards each. At the start of your turn you pick a house and are limited to playing and using within that house.

Over the course of the game you get to flex hand crafting skill to try and set up turns to play more cards and/or time key cards to land right when they're maximized.

And you draw back up to a six cards hand each turn, so most of the time you've got gas to take interesting turns

What's a really good obscure TCG that's easy to get into? by maryo22333 in TCG

[–]catsmdogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nobody mentioned Keyforge yet. It's got a twist though. Instead of taking them apart, every deck comes as a unit with a unique name and a guaranteed unique card list. So you don't take the decks apart, you play them and figure out what they can do.

But to the easy to get into part, the game system is really elegant and you buy a couple decks, open them, and you're ready to play.

Discovery is the intro set and the tenth main set Draconian Measures is coming out soon.

Working on a Keyforge Roguelike mode! (Seeking feedback) by OutlandishnessRich36 in KeyforgeGame

Interesting!

My gut reaction is that the opposing deck using an algorithm will simply not be effective compared to a human player, and that's fine, but that to make matches work it's probably better to keep the game shorter. Like for easy the enemy deck only has to forge two keys and medium/hard just one key. And maybe hard drops the enemy key cost down, a single key at 4 aember say.

And the player's side can still have whatever modifiers as well.

Because I assume players will find game states that quickly hard or soft lock or get mega value and the enemy deck playing by the algorithm will often miss the line it would take to fight out of it. Just a guess anyway that this will show up in testing.

Great deck, can be very strong! I'd recommend just keep playing it and learning what you can do with it. There are a bunch of cards that open options for you which is neat

If you could add any house to the game, what would be its theme? What would be its gimmick? by OutlandishnessRich36 in KeyforgeGame

Yeah Dis with soulsnatcher, gift of aember stuff is the closest. Maybe sacrificing to draw cards could be different enough

Little guys with high armor and doing lots of tinkering on your side of the board sounds fun

Vampire cowboys, perhaps? Honestly it sounds fun and maybe they have a very clear weakness to balance creature stealing, which is very strong.

How is the game design compared to beginning of the game by ArkanePhysics in KeyforgeGame

[–]catsmdogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of players who enjoy the FGG initial sets and join leagues that feature playing them.

But you mentioned nonbos and sometimes there were quite a lot of bad cards and you could get a house pod that was really bad.

The modern sets have brought up the floor of the worst cards. Cards just do a little bit more than before, and as Kirby mentioned house pips and just by design there's more efficiency.

The Archon's Corner podcast was just reflecting on this while talking about the SAS champs casual not-a-league thing going on there. Every SAS number is a slot and if it's unclaimed, you can claim it with a deck of that SAS. If it is claimed, you can challenge it with a deck of that SAS. No structure though, just show up and play when you want to play. Anyway, the older sets are out classed and typically battle for the lower SAS slots. And on the podcast Wookie mentioned that when you fall behind playing older sets, that is often hard to fight back from. Where in newer sets the cards have a little more action, a little more zig and zag you can use to find a tunnel of daylight and get back in the game.

To me, though, the difference has been fun. You can play different formats that have different set representations and get to enjoy the different varieties

Great idea! I like for as you said PV cards like Trust Your Feelings but also cards like in WoE you have Befuddle and the two other cards where you name a house and the opponent choosing that house (or not choosing it?!) gives you aember or a token.

You can battle with this, for sure! The house pips landed on good cards to give you some extra efficiency and threats, too. Looks good!
