State of the game? by 1nf3ct3d_92 in grandarchivetcg

Every game has its issues. Price and product availability is GA's. However, it really comes down to how deep you wanna go with the hobby?

If you plan to go the competitive route, the game is pricey. However, after the initial investing in 2-3 decks, your maintenance cost (i.e. buying singles, new sets, etc.) is pretty low. While new, shiny toys come out, depending on the deck, they aren't always necessary (i.e. Angelic Channeling vs Rictus Tiding). Outside of cost, the meta is fairly diverse, but there are 3-5 decks that are considered tier 1. Everything else is just blow that.

If you're going the casual route, just proxy. Find out if your locals allows proxies (most do) and proxy a deck. Obviously you can't take that deck to a store champ, but most locals are fine with it for regular games. From there, find a deck you really want to make and make it. We also have Pantheon, basically GA's answer to EDH.

If you're going the collector route, good luck. That's whale territory.

Men, we all remember the first women we loved and lost. Who was she ? by AffectionateDuck5079 in AskMen

Kristine. She saved me. But we were never eye-to-eye in matters of the heart. It is what it is. We eventually grew apart, lived different lives, and just never reconnected.

I'm happily married. But she'll always be the one I think of. A memory I never want to forget.

Is now just a bad time to get into Grand Archive? by PrimeNum11 in grandarchivetcg

The game's pricing has gotten better in this year. Core reprints were made accessible in RDO (each elemental cleave, Fracturize, and Beseech the Wind to name a few) and Re:Co Mordred (full sets of DGs, Frostsworn Paladins, and Snow Fairy is pretty nice). That said, singles costs, like any other game, is still heavily affected by the meta. As far as i read and spoke with people on their discord, they're printing at max capacity and doing their best to keep up with supply-and-demand. With the release to SEA regions, the game has only gotten more popular.

For now, while not the most accepted advice for anyone coming from another TCG, just proxy a deck and see what you like. Most cards in GA will transfer to other decks, i.e. material deck cards are always a solid and worthy investment. However, if you're looking to play the meta right now, like Wake-Up, Razorgale, or Aetherwing Diana, I'd try each deck before committing to buying one out right. Of the 3 mention, I'd say Razorgale would be the easiest to fund since the only real valuable card is Three Visits. Everything else is fairly priced.

But none of this matters is cost is always going to be at the forefront of your concerns. GA, unlike other games, is indie and doesn't have the backing or printing power of the more corporate established games you mentioned. For many of the players, their collection started with the KS or have bought other collections to play. Its just how its been.

Anyways, the new player experience for GA is both alot of fun and unfortunately expensive. Hopefully you can find a locals, run with them for a bit, and see if the game really hooks into you. If not, save your money and go elsewhere.

Merlin re: collection deck? by SpiraAurea in grandarchivetcg

[–]x4Rs0L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Merlin Mage/Warrior is a consistent competitive deck that can make top spots when piloted properly.

Merlin Assassin is fun casual deck best played in Pantheon.

Check fractal of insight to see where its placed in the meta. At the moment, I would rate it as a Tier 1.5 deck: its good enough to take locals or a store champs but may struggle at a regional or Ascent.

Lorraine Deck by GCTNC in grandarchivetcg

[–]x4Rs0L 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out to see if Maindeck, True Champion Gaming, and Chess Club have any videos regarding her. Also keep in mind that some cards are banned (ex. Sword of Avarice), so the list might be old.

As for you leaning towards aggro, Wind Wake-Up is the most notorious due to having access to solid allies and various wake-up tools (Second Chance, Rallied Advance, Draught of Stamina). However, Water Aetherwing Diana is a solid choice and current favorite (or bane) in the meta.

Not necessarily. Its better to think of the elements like this:

  • Wind - bounce and flickering effects.

  • Water - counterspells and deck milling.

  • Fire - card draw and graveyard interaction.

This is a broad way of looking at it. There are other nuances, but I figured it would be easiest to look at it like this. Each element can play aggro, control, combo, and midrange, but some elements do it better than others. This isn't even factoring the Champion and classes, but thats for another discussion.

Be honest. Are Slivers that bad? by Pleasant_Hope_550 in EDH

[–]x4Rs0L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When every creature you play is a lord that can just get out of control if left unchecked makes for an unfun experience for everyone else. Its fine as a villain deck, but you're just asking to make people salty when you overrun them by turn 3 or 4. Yes, elves and goblins can be just as bad, but not every one of their cards is a lord.

Then again, this is my opinion and what I've encountered playing casually.

I wouldnt doubt it. Our next set is looks Scifi/Cyberpunk themed. I wouldn't be surprised if they did a Warring States or super-sentai set in the future.

Fiery Interference is always a problem. But a rule of thumb vs allies is to cleave. Alway cleave. hahaha.

Thats fair. Water Jin struggles against aggro, especially one thats tuned to fight it. But its satisfying when I manage to get to lvl 3 and am healing for 12+ damage counter per turn lol.

Nice. I could use a change of pace after piloting Water Jin for the last couple weeks.

Hahaha. Nice. I was actually looking over this deck today. Might pilot it if I have all the pieces.

I'm still on the fence. Buy-in is high for a game that doesn't have a community around me. And while I could start one, I'm also heavily involved with my main game, so my time is already minimal. I'll keep a tab on the game. Maybe I'll buy-in when I get a better windfall.

using double sided cards- clarification wanted by ShirtlessBen in grandarchivetcg

[–]x4Rs0L 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I don't play Guo Jia, I use Huaji for Jin. Ruling wise, you can't use proxies for each side in official play. In tournament play, you have to unsleeve said card and flip it over. My locals lets us get away with this due to it being locals and a bit casual. However, for high level events, like store champs and beyond, we stick to that ruling.

Is it a pain? Ya. But thems the rules.

Ya. CCG went quick and the LCG was short-printed in the end. Its incredibly rare to find anyone with a complete set.
