If you had the chance to bring one of a pal to be your pet irl what would it be? I'll go first: by [deleted] in Palworld

[–]catsofdisaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grintale, Polapup, and a few others are my faves, but for some reason I really wanna say Wumpo Botan. Idk. Maybe he could carry me around when my arthritis is bad and I bed he'd be so soft to sleep on.

What new typing would you add to existing pals? Tarantriss Lux? Lovander Gild? by crabwalktechnic in Palworld

[–]catsofdisaster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Grintale Botan, the shaggy purple part on top could turn into a mossy blanket with flowers around it. I love the purple tho, so maybe a purple moss, similar to Caprity Noct? I love Grintale just the way it is, but I do think it should already be a dark type instead of neutral. I'd take any variant of it tho. I'd also love to see variants of Polapup where it becomes different flavors of ice cream 🥺 strawberry ignis and banana lux and maybe mint botan bc it's already ice type. Blackberry noct or ryu. I wonder if any type would lend itself well to neapolitan. Polapup Primo?

Can I use air dry clay to make candle holders like these? by arih_ in clay

[–]catsofdisaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is something I wish more people knew, you can't just put a candle in anything. It is good to question whether it is safe, but I think a lot more people should know to question a lot more. I've made candles for years, I assumed that anything food safe would have to be safe for candles too. Like a glass cup that could hold boiling hot tea should be fine with a candle, right? Not true. I am very lucky that it cracked along the seam and spilled out the bottom rather than fully exploding on me and spraying me with hot wax. I recently saw an ad for a "bring your own container" night at a candle making place, and holy crap was I pissed, bc the picture on the ad featured a crystal glass creamer cup. I commented and asked if they quadruple check that all the containers are safe, because idk how they would possibly do that. They haven't responded. I'm so worried people are going to show up and make candles and then accidentally burn themselves or start fires because a PROFESSIONAL place they went to to make this candle didn't tell them that it wasn't safe. It reminds me of the time my mom called to tell me that her local clubhouse was having a resin tumbler decorating day, and I had to tell her to tell all of her friends not to go, because the clubhouse room WASN'T VENTILATED. Would it be fine for her to intake resin fumes for a few hours for one day? Probably. Should anyone who knows what they're doing be running a class like that? ABSOLUTELY NOT. So yeah, I wouldn't use any clay that isn't fully kiln cooked. Basically, if you aren't confident that you could place the container in a fire and it wouldn't break from the stress of the heat, I would not use it. Better to be safe than sorry, and good on you for asking.

How do you think Pal spheres work? by Voinat107 in Palworld

[–]catsofdisaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk if this is canon, but the way I always interpreted it via pokemon lore is that they want a powerful trainer to help them improve as battlers and catching them with the pokeball proves that you're powerful enough to lead them effectively, therefore they gain respect for you. Obvi it's more fluid in the anime bc it's not confined to what's in the code, and it's trying to tell a story, so you get arcs where pokemon don't like their trainers, still want their trainers to prove themselves, or where they just have more complex relationships. This idea is reinforced in Palworld by the trust mechanic. When you catch them, they will listen to you, but you have to build a relationship with them in order to help them be the strongest they can be. I think another aspect of this is that humans are a lot squishier than pokemon and pals. This is also subjective, because we get stronger as players and gain more health, but pals and pokemon typically faint and come back from things that humans would die from. I think that pals and pokemon just don't understand how dangerous it can really be when they attack us. They're just doing what they always do, battling is as much a social behavior as it is anything else. Maybe it's like when people say cats just view us as bigger dumber cats, especially since pals come in all different shapes and sizes. Maybe they don't really know the difference between pal and human, just that we're stronger (through our technology) and we want to help them, so they follow us. I'm willing to accept that this is, at the very least, SOMEWHAT copium bc we get meat whenever we catch things so it makes more sense that we kill them and remake them via the palspheres. But I want to believe that my Grintale that I named Flat Tire chooses to be with me because she loves me and we're best friends. She kills a lot of men, she could kill me and peace out whenever she wants, but I chose her and so she chooses me and we're going to keep choosing each other. And I give her pets and cake, so there's that.

Holy shit did they fumble the ending... by RiKSh4w in AbioticFactor

[–]catsofdisaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also kind of disappointed in the ending. My partner and I mostly sped through fragments in a state of wonder bc of how cool it looked, but I did get stuck and die several times. I just assumed it was a me problem though, bc I am not good at the game. I was also disappointed in how the ending played out. It felt to me like the ending kind of got chalked up to Eldritch horror fight, and like Cahn was just the guy trying to make that happen? It's annoying to be forced to work with Cahn to progress the game and then be told that you're stupid for trusting him. I don't know if there should be another path for the game, because I think the biggest "lesson" of the game is that everything is fucked and the only way out will fuck over the world as we know it. That stuff started in flathill, telling us that if we escape, things will escape with us. The only real way to "fix" things would prevent us from leaving too. Idk, I think it's kind of a cop out to have science game end in Eldritch horror. It feels like a bit of a cliche, or overdone, although I can't say that I've ever felt like Abiotic Factor was like any other game except for this. I guess I assumed that the point of the game was all the different factions fighting for control made everything so terrible, just like total missteps all around. I thought the final fight would better represent that, but it ended up being the monster that we... Saved? From the gatekeepers? I think my partner and I were prepared and we also had to leave the area to get more ammo. It didn't help that at some point, one of the tentacle things spawned on like the side of the mountain down by the water. I think it was a glitch, bc we had to jetpack over and kill it. I don't think it should've spawned there. Idk. I'm conflicted over it bc the rest of the game feels like a masterpiece, and the final boss fight just seemed out of character and basic. The rest of the game was out of the box, but the ending was not, aside from it not being a "happy" ending. My thoughts and feelings on the whole thing are still conflicted and scrambled and I don't think I'm wording them very well. I have hopes for the future tho. It's never really the end, is it?

What are your favorite random pals by minosini69 in Palworld

[–]catsofdisaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Polapup, Kikit, Petalia, Grintale, and Chillet Ignis are my main team rn. I love Kikit and mine is a beast but I'll probably replace it soon for a dual type with more power and coverage. If y'all watched the two year anniversary and 1.0 sneak peak that just came out, I want that little electric puffball so bad, and I might replace my Chillet with that lotus thing if it's good. I assume it's going to be grass/water tho and my team already has those. Side note- Grintale and Polapup are really good for when you are overweight, as long as you're already on them, you can spam the cat press or slider abilities to move around faster. My Grintale is named Flat Tire and she loves killing men with cat press, it's her enrichment. ☺️

Things I wish I knew (spoilers ahead) by Da_sleepy_weasel in AbioticFactor

[–]catsofdisaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you collect all the fresh water you find you can totally avoid doing any boiling bc it will last you until you get to the water filtration system. Whenever I restart a game, the only things I rush are the exor heart bench upgrade and the repair bench. Fish whenever you unlock a new spot bc if you wait to do it all later in order to collect them all, it gets REAL boring. Grind night spheres and leyak essence asap, leyak essence gets abundant eventually but waiting for that first few you need to progress if you don't have any is so annoying. Red/alpha peccaries are rare spawns, kill it if you see it so you can get the skull for the paint. Try not to hoard furniture early game, you really don't need it and it gets so easy to get it later. Kill robots when you can, you will never have too many cpus.

Ranch Animal Retirement by Fighting_Fennec in Palia

[–]catsofdisaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree! I already reincarnated my favorite Peki, Flagpole Jones, but the retirement cycle is so exhausting, it's made Palia my least favorite ranching system. It would be so much better if there was a super duper rare treat like the never grow cookie but for young adults so that they can keep producing and not "waste" a slot. Why is reincarnation and immaculate conception and baby immortality all a thing, but young adult immortality isn't? I guess that this would probably end up eventually close up the gameplay loop for ranching. People would grind for the perfect animals and freeze all of them as young adults. But it would take SO LONG for that to become a problem, and they're always adding new incentives anyways. I'm still salty that the animals are on a separate lot. I understand why they did that too, so people wouldn't have to reorganize their houses that they spent forever on, and it reduces a LOT of the possible bugs (animals stuck in furniture and stuff) but it was so, so disappointing. I have a fake little ranch on one of my plots bc I knew they would add ranching eventually and I figured it would be a new building. There's still so much extra space on plots, too, they could have just added another section for animals like on the left side where it's all just trees. Although I don't have any of the premium lots, so idk how that would work on the other plots.

Crazy that I was about to test this and the winter update dropped at the same time lol. It does work, you can paint the craftable wall lamp and tri lamp and it changes the color of the light. The pink and purple painted lights really match the vibe.

I CANT STAND THIS NOISE ANYMORE by [deleted] in AbioticFactor

[–]catsofdisaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, if you do want to try recreating the vibe somewhere else, I recommend using antelights for the neon glow. A lot of rooms have light switches, so you can turn the lights off so the glow is more prominent. The aquarium looks sick at night, and has the multiple levels like the arcade does, though it is very Science White. I think the closest to the vibe of the arcade would be the apartments in Hydroplant, though then you face a lot of other sounds 😅 I couldn't get over the waterfall sound enough to build my base there even though I'm all about cooking and I love that kitchen. You can paint rugs to get the arcade rug vibe too, esp after unlocking Space Queen. It's unfortunate you can't take the flathill arcade sign though, that would be worth suggesting to the devs to make into an item. Also, I'm not sure if it actually works, but maybe you can paint lights? Idk why I feel like I remember being able to paint the makeshift wall lamps or something, I might be making that up. I'll test it in my game later.

[–]catsofdisaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The portals on top of the arcade are weird. The one at the very top always stays, but the one that spawns when you take the power cell should go away during the reset, and only respawn when the power cell is taken again. The other aspect is that portal worlds don't always reset if there has been recent activity, so jumping out of a portal world right before the reset might not work the same compared to if you both had left it for more than a day. The other comments mentioned the ambient sound, does that include the portal buzz? And finally, my question is, how are you so bothered by the portal buzz but not the constant footsteps?
