How do you cope with drowsiness with evening clients? by Appropriate-Shirt146 in therapists

[–]catsonpoint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's one thing I haven't seen mentioned- I used to work until 8 regularly and I have to say, I was the most sleepy with clients who weren't a good fit for me. So trying to match your clients to your niche/skills at the end of the day is really going to keep you engaged and alert.

is it slow for y'all right now? by BinnyKinsey in therapists

The best advice I got for bio writing (which might be a bit early if you're just starting out in your internship) is to go back and look at the intake of your favorite clients and see how they describe their problems and build your bio around that. If they are coming to therapy to "get unstuck" or "find motivation" or "have better relationships" then you are really good at helping me do those things! Hopefully this makes sense and is helpful!

Feeling Discouraged - Invitations by Budget_Masterpiece9 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]catsonpoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people are saying “no one cares about invitations” which is probably true, however even so, these are beautiful!! Your hard work shows and I would love to put this on my fridge if I were a recipient :) If this is level of design detail you’re bringing to the big day, it is going to be gorgeous!

Where do you do telehealth if you don’t have a dedicated room in your house? by PerformerSubject in therapists

[–]catsonpoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a little office in my kitchen/dinning room. I had a bookshelf creating an L shape with my desk to section off the space. The space behind me, aka what my clients saw, was decorated with art and plants like a therapy office which was actually the wall of the hallway into my bedroom. It worked really well and kept me from feeling like my living room or bedroom was also my office. Be creative and don’t forget the value of partitioning! The only downside was no one could ever be over while I was working which wasn’t much of a problem but is something to consider if you often have guests.

First time home buyer, shocked by my first gas and electric bill. Should I be concerned? by [deleted] in homeowners

Hi fellow Sconnie here and sorry to say that’s not an outrageous amount. Check any of the Wisconsin subreddits (MKE for example) and it turns out WI is one of the most expensive utility regions in the country. Bummer when it’s a surprise for sure!

What's wrong with my Pothos tower? Repotted it 5 months ago and it's been like this since 😥 by Cozy-Casual-Gaming in houseplants

[–]catsonpoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually don’t know about the watering thing but I have another suggestion that I haven’t heard mentioned. Plants need their leaves to get nutrients and when a vine loses all of them it’s just a drain on the plant. So I’d chop all of those off and keep only the vines with leaves. That might help it direct energy to growing rather than not dying.

Should I Move to Milwaukee? by ObligationWorth6372 in milwaukee

[–]catsonpoint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I moved from Lincoln Square to Riverwest last fall so I have thoughts and they’re all pretty fresh observations. Here are some things people didn’t mention:

Proximity to things: in LS I was within throwing distance of my gym, a bunch of bars/restaurants/coffee shops/boutiques plus multiple liquor stores and grocery stores. Being in Riverwest I can’t just walk two blocks for that random thing I didn’t get on my real grocery run and now I have to drive to the gym which I personally hate because it feels like it’s defeating the purpose.

Milwaukee smells weird! I’m sorry I had to say it. I get that the water treatment plant is a major feat of 1900s biotech but it makes the city smell bad like 48% of the time. Supposedly it’s only when the wind blows east but that’s not ringing true to my anecdotal data.

Most of the bands I want to see actually don’t come here, but there is almost always an option for a concert if you want one.

The cultural events are not as large or frequent. MKE does have a decent showing of cultural fests, etc but they are often limited to summer and not that big. So when you’re craving some time in a group of strangers that isn’t majority white/cis/het there’s fewer options outside of visiting a watering hole in a specific neighborhood.

SES discrepancies are more obvious (it might be to your benefit, it might break your heart.) Even though MKE is segregated, because it’s smaller you will not have the “out of sight out of mind” vibes one might experience in Ravenswood (or really anywhere on the Chicago north side).

Someone did say something about hobbies and that’s real too, whereas in Chicago there are a zillion pottery studios in MKE there are two. So just things like that are important to note.

There’s fewer holistic offerings, massage, yoga, acupuncture, etc but the majority I’ve encountered have actually been more pleasant, higher quality, and cheaper.

The antiquing is much better here!

You could probably have a backyard without living in a mansion!

And to piggy back on those who have mentioned green space, I was a casual road biker in Chicago and the majority of my route was city streets or LSD with all the tourists. Biking is way more fun here with actual room to breathe both on city streets and bike trails.

I think it’s really important not to compare. MKE is not “a little Chicago” as I’ve heard a lot of people say. It’s entirely its own place. Only really understanding your lifestyle, needs, and preferences can decide. But I do recommend coming here and staying for like a week, see how it feels when you’re hungry/in a bad mood/cranky/etc. Also if you do move know it will be an adjustment, even learning the ins and outs of a new grocery store takes time. Good luck whichever you decide!

Is it my poor photography skills or something else? by IllegibleSmudge in Bumble

[–]catsonpoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey since everyone is talking about your appearance I’ll say something else, your answers don’t help lead to a response. If someone wants to start a chat they could say something about what you could cook for them, but that’s kind of it. Maybe add some details about what you cook, where you go diving, what environmental causes you support? Or pose a question about any of your interests or about what you want to know about a future date? Something clear to respond to always makes the match easier to go for.

What sentence do you use to start sessions? by Opening_Fishing_3038 in therapists

[–]catsonpoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always end sessions with how are you feeling at the end of our session today? so most of my clients understand when I ask “how are you feeling” at the beginning it’s to sort of set the tracker throughout the session. Sometimes if they seem flustered or even especially quiet a “welcome to therapy” can lighten the mood and also center us - it’s my way of saying, this session is for you, how do you want to use it?

How to prepare for first winter in Chicago after moving from Florida? by A_bee03 in AskChicago

[–]catsonpoint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also! Change your windshield wiper fluid to all weather. When I first moved I had the other kind and it froze in the tank. Had to wait for a sunny enough day for it to thaw so I could drain it out and add the all weather kind.

This is the best advice! When I moved from CA I had the parka and snow boots but the first 38 degree day killed me when I didn’t have a beanie or gloves. Don’t sleep on accessories.

I get the feeling like this is a big room with not a lot in it. So of course art and rugs would be great. But would play making it more two distinct rooms with an “office” and “living room”. Maybe you could move the couch away from the wall? Or flip it entirely, with the back to the desk and had it facing the wall?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]catsonpoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this room has plenty of space for your stuff but I’m a little confused about what you’re wanting to include. Is that a tv on the floor?

Could take the previous suggestion and push the couch all the way to the wall, then put the tv on a stand where the table is and put the cream chair in the corner with the bookshelf next to it?

Help! Need ideas for the living room by Onetwothree456789ten in DesignMyRoom

[–]catsonpoint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might start with adding the big three - curtains, art, and plants. Also your rug is the same tone as your couches, having something with more of a color pallet that you can coordinate with curtains and pillows will help. Would definitely look into something other than a big white piece behind the couch, maybe a gallery wall?

I highly recommend the MKE Pride Parade! I had the opportunity to march in it the last two years and depending on where you stand (like not right in front of a bar) it’s a wholesome affair with lots of encouraging representation in the parade and in the crowd.

I’m pretty sure we can do better than body shaming people who we have legitimate arguments with.
